WWE Day 1 - 5 Mistakes WWE shouldn't make at the show: Roman Reigns goes back on his word; fan favorites suffer setback

WWE Day 1 could kick off 2022 on a high

WWE Day 1 is just a few nights of sleep away and the company is looking to kick off 2022 with a bang. It will be the company’s first pay-per-view to take place on New Year’s Day.

WWE has booked several big matches for the event. However, a recent COVID-19 outbreak could force the creative team to alter some plans at the last minute.

Nevertheless, the show will likely be a good one if WWE avoids making a few big mistakes. Mistakes with some bookings and finishes shouldn’t be made so that fans can get the best out of the rivalries. With that in mind, take a look at the five mistakes WWE shouldn’t make at Day 1.

#5. Creating rifts between Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens at WWE Day 1

WWE Day 1 will host a massive championship match between Big E, Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens, and Seth Rollins. The four men will compete for the WWE Championship at the pay-per-view.

All four superstars had a good build before the big match. Owens and Rollins have also teased a partnership that has taken social media by storm. Big E will likely retain his title at the pay-per-view and continue as the WWE Champion post Day 1.

At the event, WWE should avoid the mistake of creating a rift between KO and Seth Rollins. The two men could end up working well together if given the chance. The Prizefighter recently spoke about his relationship with Rollins. He mentioned that the two superstars had good chemistry.

"When it’s been so long you know someone, like Seth, I’ve known him for 15 years now, you develop a chemistry with that person after all those years...We knew we could do good matches and provide good wrestling together, but we never really had a chance to do some back and forth like this, so it’s fun to realize that there’s something there," said Owens.

It would be great to have the two men team up post Day 1. They are both great on the mic and in the ring. WWE should therefore avoid making the mistake of having them split apart at Day 1, and keep them on the same page during the pay-per-view.

#4. Not having Edge and The Miz’s wives interfere in their contest at WWE Day 1

Edge and The Miz will take their rivalry to the ring at WWE Day 1. The two superstars are set to prove who is the most active WWE legend.

Both superstars have worked hard to reach where they are in the wrestling world today. The Miz has also used his wife, Maryse, well into the rivalry to make things more interesting.

Edge’s wife still hasn’t shown up to take the rivalry to the next level. Beth Phoenix left WWE NXT’s commentary team, and it was expected that she would join Edge in the rivalry.

WWE shouldn’t make the mistake of keeping Maryse and Beth out of the rivalry at Day 1. Maryse should show up to help her husband during the match, only to be taken down by the returning Beth Phoenix.

The angle would allow all four superstars to take the next step and prepare for a mixed tag team match at the 2022 Royal Rumble. Not cashing in on such a big opportunity would be a big mistake for the company.

#3. Taking the RAW Tag Team Championships off RK-Bro at WWE Day 1

The Street Profits will look to win back the RAW Tag Team Championships at WWE Day 1. They will challenge Riddle and Randy Orton for the titles.

The RK-Bro has arguably been the most entertaining tag team in WWE this year. Riddle and Orton have managed to form a great bond and put on some stellar matches.

Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford are the most established duo on WWE RAW. The Street Profits seem to be the strongest opponents of RK-Bro to date.

However, it would be a mistake to take the titles off RK-Bro at WWE Day 1. Instead, WWE could have one of Alpha Academy interfere to end the match controversially. Allowing Street Profits to win the RAW Tag Team Championships could force RK-Bro to disband soon.

Riddle is set to team up with MSK a few days after Day 1 on WWE NXT. Meanwhile, WWE could look to book a rivalry between RK-Bro and the team of Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins following Day 1 to give fans something big to look forward to.

#2. Handing Becky Lynch a quick win over Liv Morgan at WWE Day 1

Becky Lynch will walk into WWE Day 1 as the RAW Women’s Champion. She has continued to remain on top of the company for a few years now. Lynch picked up a very quick victory over the dominant Bianca Belair at WWE SummerSlam to win the title.

Meanwhile, Liv Morgan is still working hard to reach the top of RAW. Day 1 will provide her with another big opportunity to win the RAW Women’s Championship.

WWE has been focused on Lynch and her victories for some time now. However, the creative should not make the mistake of handing her another quick victory at the show.

A quick victory at Day 1 will help Lynch stay on top but destroy Liv’s future chances. The mistake will also weaken the overall RAW women’s division that has several top women waiting in line for their chances.

Therefore, it would be better if WWE avoids handing Liv a quick loss at Day 1 just to build Lynch further. Instead, The Man could cheat her way to another win after a hard-fought match if she is booked to retain the title at Day 1.

#1. Allowing Paul Heyman to get back with Roman Reigns at WWE Day 1

Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar at WWE Day 1. The two men are set to collide once again in what will likely be the main event of the show.

Paul Heyman has played a significant role in both men’s character development over the years. Just a couple of weeks ago, Reigns asked Heyman to tell him the hard truth.

The wise man did not hold back and told The Tribal Chief that he was protecting him from Brock Lesnar. Reigns then took down Heyman with a Superman Punch before The Beast Incarnate appeared to save him from a further beatdown.

Heyman’s faith now hangs in the balance as it looks like his career might be over. WWE should avoid bringing Heyman and Reigns back together at Day 1.

It would be a huge mistake if WWE reveals that the entire thing was preplanned and brings Heyman back at Day 1 to side up with his Tribal Chief. Instead, WWE should look to keep Heyman and Reigns apart for some time, even if they are still on the same page.
