There are some intriguing possibilities as to how this match is going to end

WWE Extreme Rules 2017 is just around the corner and anticipation is high for the second Monday Night Raw exclusive pay per view after Wrestlemania 33 to see which superstars are going to walk out of the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland with victories.

One of the biggest mid-card matches on the show is the Intercontinental Championship match between Dean Ambrose and The Miz with the stipulation that the champion, Ambrose, will lose his title if he is disqualified over the course of the match.

The reason for this is that during their last encounter for the title – after Backlash 2017 – The Lunatic Fringe got himself intentionally disqualified to keep hold of the strap much to the chagrin of the A-Lister and his wife, Maryse. So, here we are with this strange stipulation at an Extreme Rules event.

There are multiple options on how the WWE wants to book the finish of this match, and today we are here to explore 5 such possible scenarios. So, without any further ado, here are 5 possible finishes for Dean Ambrose vs. The Miz at WWE Extreme Rules 2017:

#5 The Miz wins clean

Can Miz win without the help of Maryse?

We start off with the least likely outcome, The Miz going over Dean Ambrose clean to become Intercontinental Champion for the seventh time in his long and now illustrious career. With the way the match is set up coupled with the fact that Mr Mizanin is a true heel, it would be a shock if he wins the match clean without any shenanigans.

The stipulation might have been added as a red herring to throw fans off from guessing this possible finish, but it seems like a convoluted method of coming to this outcome. Another point against this outcome is that The Miz’s wife, Maryse, is almost definitely going to be at ringside, and she is sure to get involved at some point.

However, a clean win would put Miz amongst the upper echelon of Intercontinental Champions and don’t rule it out just because it doesn’t seem likely.

#4 Dean Ambrose wins clean

A clean win for The Lunatic Fringe?

Another possible finish that completely avoids the stipulation is Dean Ambrose picking up the victory clean to retain the Intercontinental Championship. This is more likely than our last entry because Dean is the babyface in this scenario even though he got himself intentionally disqualified last time around.

A clean victory would give The Lunatic Fringe a lot of momentum going forward, but the problem with this again, as we mentioned in the previous slide, is that this is a lot of effort just for an unexpected swerve.

Also, a clean victory for Ambrose doesn’t do anything for either party as the current champion needs something new to freshen up his stale character.

#3 A double disqualification

Are we going to end the night with unresolved matters?

Here’s one of the more unexpected outcomes that this match could offer. With how much the WWE loves its dusty finishes and the fact that this match is set up for one, they might do a complete swerve and have both men get disqualified during the match.

This would give the creative team something different to work with and an opportunity to extend the feud into Great Balls of Fire as well. This also helps protect both men as top stars who don’t have to suffer a downswing in momentum.

The point against this finish is that it might leave a sour taste in the mouth of fans who could reject the whole feud because of this weird swerve. Also, who would be the champion in this case? Is it Dean because it’s a draw? Or would it go to The Miz because of the disqualification stipulation? Confusing times, indeed.

#2 Dean Ambrose gets disqualified

Could Maryse get Dean disqualified?

Now, coming to deal with the meat of this matter, there is a very real possibility that Dean Ambrose does end up getting disqualified and losing the belt to his hated opponent. After all, who expects stipulations like this to go to plan, right?

It could be The A-Lister getting under The Lunatic Fringe’s skin, causing him to snap or it could be something more subtle like having Maryse attack him so that it ends up with Dean getting DQ’ed.

With the backstage murmurs that the WWE officials aren’t happy with Dean’s run as Intercontinental Champion, maybe the right move is to put the title on someone like The Miz who has proven himself as a solid secondary champion.

#1 The Miz gets disqualified

Could things backfire on The Miz?

Now, this is the most straightforward outcome, so it might be the one that the WWE tries to avoid. That being said, the storytelling means the most likely outcome is probably the best result in this case. The Miz’s plan might well backfire on him, and the match could end with The A-Lister getting disqualified.

The most likely scenario is that The Miz gets frustrated with Ambrose not getting DQ’ed and gets caught while attempting to pull off an underhanded manoeuvre. It would be poetic justice at its best.
