WWE: In Ziggler we trust

A few weeks ago, on the RAW after WrestleMania, Dolph Ziggler finally cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and defeated an injured Alberto Del Rio to become the new World Heavyweight champion. Ever since then, Ziggler has been one of the most entertaining aspects of the show, starting with his “new” style of wearing the title around his waist, to putting people over (again) and making them look like legitimate threat for the title.

There is a reason almost everyone likes Dolph Ziggler; not only is he talented in the ring, but he is one of the best talkers in the business, and the fact that he is charismatic wraps things up, making him a complete package. In many people’s eyes, the World title has finally found some credibility, being with Dolph Ziggler.

Before Ziggler, the World title was a mere toy, as all the other mid-card talent to main event guys were playing hot potato with it, as it was being passed around. Till half a decade ago, the World title was the most important title in the company, along with the WWE Championship, but now, it has the importance of a second tier title! A legitimate champion is someone who brings back the importance to a title, like how Cody Rhodes brought back the importance to the WWE Intercontinental championship, or how Antonio Cesaro brought back the importance to the US title during his 200-day odd run as the champion.

The only drawback to all of this is how the creative has booked Ziggler till now. As a matter of fact, all the heel champions have been booked to look very weak, thus taking away all of their credibility as champions. When the champion loses all of his TV matches, no one takes him seriously, and thus, he can never bring any kind of legitimacy to the title. Dolph Ziggler was on a losing streak even before winning the World title, and after he became the World champion, he has lost a match against Del Rio, and lost a three way tag team match!

If the World champion loses to other guys on TV, who would take him seriously to win during PPVs, or consider him to be a legitimate champion? That’s something the Hollywood writers don’t understand. This isn’t like a movie without any sequels. The storylines have to make sense, and should be connected well.

Dolph Ziggler has worked his way up from being a sidekick to Kerwin White aka Chavo Guerrero, to a member of the Spirit Squad, and then finally, Dolph Ziggler. He has given the fans what they wanted to see and has stepped up the ladder when everyone else was complacent. He was the workhorse of the WWE for a better part of 2 years, doing double duty on PPVs to fill up the card. And finally, Ziggler has won the big one, and that is the reason why the fans adore Ziggler. Even when he was the United States champion, Ziggler put over guys like Zack Ryder, something no one else was willing to do. Dolph Ziggler exemplifies what this business is all about, and that is the best thing about having him as the World champion.

Now, you don’t have to think extra hard how to book Dolph as a credible champion. He has Big E Langston and AJ Lee with him, and this trio can be used as the main source of Ziggler being the champion, very similar to Evolution being the reason for Triple H being the World champion for a long time. Instead of Dolph losing to other guys, he can win his matches with the assistance of Big E and AJ. This will not make the face look weak, as Dolph had to get help from his entourage to keep the title with him. This will make Ziggler look like a good heel champion and will give credibility to both the challenger and the champion. It’s surprising how the creative cannot think of something so simple! Either way, I hope Ziggler will remain the World champion for a long time to come, and won’t be made to look so weak on TV every week.
