WWE Monday Night Raw Preview: 8 August, 2016

New challenge for Reigns.

The ratings of last week’s Monday Night Raw might’ve taken a fall compared to its predecessor, but then again, it was near impossible to break the ratings of the post-Battleground show due to the buildup it had. This week, WWE will be looking to put together yet another show worth tuning into as they are on the road to SummerSlam.

WWE laid foundations for some interesting feuds last week and they will be looking to develop them this week. They are advertising a few guaranteed segments for the show as well. Here is a look at the things that WWE could mention in this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw.

Superman against Bulgarian Brute

A big takeaway from last week’s Raw was the new storyline between Rusev and Roman Reigns. After Rusev’s match against Mark Henry, Reigns came in for the save and had an interesting post-match segment with the Bulgarian brute. Reigns not only did outclass Rusev but also locked his eyes at the United States Championship.

Reigns, who was taken out of the WWE Universal championship scene after his defeat against Finn Balor, needed a feud and Rusev provides just that. Spending some time in the mid card will be beneficial for Reigns and since Rusev is such a good heel, Reigns might get a cheer or two as we move ahead.

Jeri-KO

Someone finally might have Chris Jericho’s back.

Chris Jericho, Enzo Amore, Sasha Banks and Charlotte gave a great segment last week on Raw. The to and fro promo from Jericho and Enzo sparked magic and WWE made an interesting addition into the feud later that night in the form of Kevin Owens. In the opening segment, Big Cass had come to the rescue of his partner, which in turn outnumbered Jericho.

Owens then said that he got Jericho’s back meaning that a tag team feud would be the most natural path to take. Owens, just like Enzo and Jericho, is gold on the microphone. If WWE gives these men some creative freedom, expect an entertaining segment from them this week on Raw.

Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs in house

What can they do with him?

WWE’s habit of having guest hosts on Raw will be back this week. Grammy award winner Sean ‘Puff Daddy’ Combs will be the guest host on Raw and as always, the fans will be ready to evaluate how good WWE handles the celebrity. WWE does have a string of superstars that they could use to put over Sean Combs. The front runner would be Heath Slater as he will need a segment on Raw.

Similarly, WWE could make use of R-Truth and Goldust due to the comic brilliance that they bring to the table. Either way, hopefully, WWE won’t mess up this opportunity and will produce some good content for the rapper.

Taking the next ‘Universal’ step

What’s next?

Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor is booked and these two were seen in a solid angle last week. Balor and Rollins held on their own and the WWE Universe got a taste of Balor’s promo skills as well. It was Balor that got the better of Rollins during the segment but Rollins came back strong later that night with a win against Sami Zayn. Now that WWE has pulled off the face-to-face promo card, it will be up to them to bring out something new for the feud.

Finn Balor still needs to develop a character and it would be good if WWE gives attention to this rather than building him up a high performing college student that is excelling in his new workplace.

The meeting of the GM’s

Bryan will be on Raw

Having a cross-brand feud in the initial stages of the brand split was not something that the fans appreciated. But then again, WWE had announced the Randy Orton vs. Brock Lesnar match before the brand split, so it would not be fair to complain as WWE simply followed kayfabe and kept things real for the WWE draft. Last week, both Lesnar and Orton went to their competing brand and caused chaos.

As a result, this week, Mick Foley has invited SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan to Raw. WWE mentioned that there will be discussions regarding Orton and Lesnar and though the chances of Lesnar appearing are low, the unpredictability of Orton could make matters interesting.
