What's the story?

Eric Bischoff was perhaps one of the most surprising additions to Raw's 25th Anniversary show when it was announced last week, but it seems that ahead of his appearance next week on the show, Bischoff shared his thoughts on Raw and its upcoming celebrations.

In case you didn't know...

Eric Bischoff is a former Raw General Manager and president of WCW. He was also a part of the team that competed against WWE for a number of years during the Monday Night Wars. He then came over to WWE and was seen as an authority figure for a number of years before he was publically fired by Vince McMahon and put in a garbage truck on Raw.

Bischoff hasn't appeared on WWE TV now for more than a decade since he was last seen as part of the 15th Anniversary show which has allowed the former Manager to move on to a number of other projects.

The heart of the matter

Bischoff recently appeared on the Pancakes and Powerslams Show where he talked about his feelings on WWE's current product.

He said: "I think in general, incredibly impressed, now, that's not to say that it necessarily suits my particular tastes 100 percent of the time, because that wouldn't be true. But, one of the things that I learned a long time ago, and I learned it directly from Ted Turner, by the way, one of the few things I remember him saying specifically to me outside of a couple other strategic business conversations, was that when you're in the business of programming content, and in this particular case, Ted was talking about how the way he programmed his networks at Turner Broadcasting, is you have to be careful not to program for yourself. You have to program for the masses.

Eric was also able to share his thoughts on Raw celebrating 25 years as well.

"So, while I'm super impressed with the WWE, because, for no other reason, they have been able to adapt and evolve to the taste of the audience, and maintain the powerful position. Not only in the United States, but on the USA Network, they're about to celebrate 25 years of being one of the leading programs in all of cable television. Anybody in television would covet the opportunity to be able to make that statement. But not only are they preparing to celebrate 25 years of dominance in cable television here in the United States, their content is seen in over 180 countries around the world. So how could anybody be anything other than impressed with what we see in WWE?"

What's next?

Raw celebrates their 25th Anniversary next Monday Night and Eric Bischoff will be in attendance to celebrate the lengthy achievement for one of the longest episodic TV shows in history.

Author's take

WWE's current product has been something that has attracted some negative attention recently. It seems that Bischoff is much more open with his words when he isn't preparing to appear on WWE TV. He won't be willing to say exactly what he thinks, but it will be fascinating to know if these are his real thoughts or not. It will definitely be interesting to see him as part of the show again next week.
