WWE News: Former SmackDown writer speaks about Tuesday Morning production meetings

What's the story?

Head writer for Lucha Underground and former SmackDown writer, Chris DeJoseph caught up with Sports Illustrated for an exclusive interview, detailing his time in WWE as one of the top writers between 2006-2010.

He provided a keen insight into the life of a WWE writer, and elaborated on how taxing it was. He also added how difficult it was to please the top boss.

In case you didn't know...

It is a well-known fact that being a wrestler for WWE is highly competitive. DeJoseph said that being a writer under Vince McMahon could be equally as taxing.

What caught our interest was his take on the Tuesday Morning Production meetings. While a job at WWE may be a dream for most writers, it certainly was not a cakewalk. DeJoseph explained why.

The heart of the matter

This is what DeJoseph had to say about the Tuesday Morning production meetings (H/T Wrestlingrumours.net):

“You sit at a table and talk through the show. It’s detailed, but if you don’t do a good job delivering the show, you can almost be booed off the table. Vince will start rolling his eyes and people will start making comments, so you need some confidence and a willingness to take some risks.

The man always had some backup ideas ready as Vince Mcmahon was very particular about what worked and what didn't:

So you pitch the show. I always had a few back-up ideas as options because I knew Vince wouldn’t go for everything. You wouldn’t just pitch random ideas. I always tried to do something that stuck within the story, and we focused on what the top guys were doing, whether that was for John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Triple H, or The Undertaker.

Wow! Sounds like a very tough gig!

What's next?

SmackDown Live scored some of the lowest ratings in a while, this week. Looks like their production meeting won't be a breeze. Poor creative team.

It is common knowledge that Vince McMahon is a perfectionist. Therefore, this piece of news did not take me by surprise. I would have had nightmares had I been in Mr. DeJoseph's place instead.
