What's the story?

Former WWE Superstar, Rob Van Dam, recently sat down with Edge and Christian on their podcast, "E & C's Pod of Awesomeness".

Van Dam shared an interesting story from the early '90s when he and Chris Benoit almost fought in the locker room.

In case you didn't know...

Rob Van Dam had a brief stint with WCW in the early 90s, before going to ECW and eventually, WWE. Currently, he is signed with TNA and was featured in the main event of the promotion's recent PPV, United We Stand.

The heart of the matter

During the early 90s, Rob Van Dam decided to quit World Championship Wrestling and try his hand in the indies. While talking with Edge and Christian on his final days in WCW, RVD told a story of a backstage confrontation he had with Chris Benoit,

According to Van Dam, he didn't know who Chris Benoit was at the time, while he was a young up and comer who had just turned 22-years old.

Benoit learned the news of RVD leaving the promotion, and confronted him backstage in the dressing room. He proceeded to pin Rob Van Dam against the wall and began berating him on his decision, stating that he was making a huge mistake.

I didn't really know this guy, and he goes up to me in the dressing room; I'm 22 years old, just turned 22 and he goes up to me and said, 'Hey, I heard you are leaving?" I said that I was, and he responded with; 'Are you f**king kidding me? You're quitting on your own? You're on f**king TV.'
He had me pinned up against the wall, and he was just like, 'I think you are f**king stupid. What are you going to do, the f**king indies? You're going to leave WCW and TV to go do the f**king indies? You're f**king stupid if you asked me.'

RVD added that when he was about to leave WWE in 2007, Benoit again confronted him in the locker room, and said that he respected his decision to leave the promotion.

What's next?

Rob Van Dam has signed with TNA and has said that even though the contract has an end date, the two parties can work it out and extend it in the near future. Here's wishing the best of luck to RVD on this new stint with TNA.
