From the WWE Rumor Mill: How Vince McMahon might have bladed for Kevin Owens headbutt segment

Kevin Owens has a stiff headbutt

What's the story?

Kevin Owens had an incredible segment with Vince McMahon on SmackDown Live this week which left him bloody on the canvas. The headbutt from Owens was legit and hard enough to do some damage but did Vince McMahon blade to help things out? The latest Wrestling Observer might have shed some light on things.

In case you didn't know...

Bleeding in a WWE ring used to be an everyday occurrence back in the Attitude Era. But when WWE went to TV-PG the blood quickly dried up.

There was no more blading allowed which was the most common way to make yourself bleed during a match. If someone was actually busted open the contest was sometimes stopped by medical personnel.

Batista was actually fined $100,000 for cutting himself during a match against Chris Jericho in 2008. WWE was serious about blood and if it ever happened it was reserved for a very special occasion like a Brock Lesnar match.

The heart of the matter

Dave Meltzer notes in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he's spoken to several people and although the exact methods aren't clear the general belief is Vince bladed himself beforehand and covered the fresh wound up with Nu-Skin.

The headbutt from Kevin Owens was enough to break the Nu-Skin and the wound kept bleeding profusely. Many people Meltzer spoke to who would know about these things say that appears to be what happened.

What's next?

This might have been the last time you'll see blood in WWE for a while. But if it worked out so well this time, who knows if they could pull off this kind of trick again sometime. It was certainly a clever way to get blood on television without blading on the spot if that's how Vince accomplished the feat.

Author's take

Honestly, I don't care how Vince executed this amazing moment because it had Kevin Owens in it. His headbutt was believable enough to bust Vince open and he was given the trust of the boss to pull it off.
