WWE News: Kevin Owens's first title defense announced

KOMania is upon us!

Kevin Owens winning the Universal Title this week on RAW has reinstated the IWC’s lost faith in the WWE and the future is effulgent now. The events in the closing moments of RAW posed many unanswered questions such as Seth Rollin’s turn and where it’s going to take him, Triple H’s explanations and the role Stephanie McMahon had in all of this. But the biggest question of them all is arguably this: who will KO defend his title against?

Well, WWE ended the speculations and announced that Kevin Owens’s first title defense as WWE Universal Champion would be against Seth Rollins and Sami Zayn in a Triple Threat Match at WWE’s Live event on Wednesday, 7th September, at the O2 Arena in London. Considering the caliber of the three competitors, the fans in London are going to be treated to an instant classic.

The match has all the makings of being a PPV headlining bout and it comes as a letdown that it’s a live event exclusive. But hey, that doesn’t mean WWE won’t book it for the televised audience soon.

Coming to the televised feud for the Universal title, Seth Rollins is set to be KO’s first opponent as Universal Champion, according to reports. Triple H is said to spearhead his new golden boy Owens against a babyface Rollins in the rivalry, and in spite of the pops and cheers that KO and Triple got, they would be the heels going into the program.

The feud will also see Chris Jericho involved, presumably to set up a feud and Universal title match with KO down the lane. At the same time, Triple H is expected to take on Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 33 or Survivor Series. But for now, the focus is on next week’s RAW and the tantalizing segments that will set things up perfectly for the first RAW exclusive PPV, Clash Of Champions.

The Clash Of Champions match card would most likely be headlined by KO vs Rollins with Triple H in Owen’s corner. Apart from that, New Day could put the tag team titles on the line again against The Club. Charlotte and Bayley would most probably fight for the Women’s Championship, but with recent rumors of Sasha Banks returning in a couple of weeks, plans are subject to change.
