WWE Rumors: Seth Rollins possibly debuts new finishing move

Did Seth Rollins retire the pedigree at WrestleMania?

What’s the story?

Seth Rollins reportedly debuted a new finisher against Kevin Owens, in a dark match after Raw went off the air.

In case you didn’t know....

Seth Rollins used Triple H’s pedigree as his finishing move between May 2015 and WrestleMania 33. Prior to this, he used the curb stomp as his finisher.

While the curb stomp was considered one of the most lethal-looking finishers in WWE, it was banned shortly after WrestleMania 31. This was because Vince McMahon believed that the move was too easily imitable, and didn't suit the PG product of WWE.

Seth Rollins was in a dark match post-RAW where he teamed with Chris Jericho against Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens.

The heart of the matter

Rollins’ new finisher was similar to Kazuchika Okada’s “Rainmaker”. However, instead of using the lariat that Okada does, The Architect used the knee.

If you have not seen the “Rainmaker”, you can watch it here:

It makes storyline sense that Rollins retires the pedigree now that he has used it to defeat the King of Kings at WrestleMania. Triple H was his mentor in storyline and it is the perfect time for Rollins to move on.

What’s next?

Rollins is currently in a feud with Samoa Joe; and from the look of things, he will face the master of the Coquina Clutch at Payback. He was originally rumoured to face Joe at Fastlane, but the knee injury spoiled these plans.

Author’s take

It is high time that Rollins got a new finishing move. It is apt that he retired the pedigree at WrestleMania, and a new finisher will help him create his own legacy and not constantly associate his move set with Triple H, though that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Rollins would have been an ideal pick for SmackDown Live, but since AJ Styles has stayed put, perhaps it is best that Rollins stays on RAW, for now.
