WWE News: The Undertaker may undergo a hip replacement surgery

Wrestlemania 33 may very well prove to be the Undertaker’s last outing

What’s the story?

Now that the dust has settled on WrestleMania 33, the WWE Universe is slowly coming to grips with the Undertaker’s retirement. The Phenom, who has dominated the Wrestlemania scene for over two decades, finally decided to hang up his boots after his match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33.

Dave Meltzer reported that the Undertaker would be going through a few surgical procedures. He said that The Undertaker had been holding off on a possible surgery and now that his career was seemingly over, he could go ahead with the procedure.

In case you didn’t know…

The Undertaker has been a constant force of reckoning in the WWE. Taker is the only WWE superstar who was present when Monday Night RAW started out in 1993 and also showed up for its 1000th episode a few years ago. The Undertaker’s true dominance is reflected by his impressive WrestleMania record which stands at 23-2, the losses coming against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.

The heart of the matter

Meltzer reported that the Undertaker was holding off a hip replacement surgery due to his commitments with the WWE. Meltzer had earlier said that the Undertaker had been hurting during his show at the Royal Rumble. Taker looked uncomfortable and was seen limping to the ring in the weeks building up to Wrestlemania.

Meltzer stated that Undertaker needed a full hip replacement owing to the bumps and wear that he had taken during his storied wrestling career.

In the past there have been several images on the internet that showed the Undertaker on crutches, suggesting that the Deadman was going through some sort of discomfort.

What’s next?

The Undertaker’s match with Roman Reigns may have been his last. After the match, the Undertaker laid out his ring gear in the middle of the ring in a symbolic gesture of his retirement. He will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame somewhere down the line, but as it stands, the Undertaker is done with wrestling.

Author’s take

The Undertaker may not grace the Wrestlemania stage as a competitor ever again, but his legacy lives on. It is safe to say that his record at the ‘Showcase of Immortals’ is a feat that will never be replicated.
