Will Raw defeat SmackDown Live?

What's the story?

As reported by Wrestling Inc, the latest viewing figures for Monday Night Raw have been released. The show, which featured Braun Strowman vs. Big Show in the main event, drew an average of 3.346 million viewers which is actually down 2.4% from last week.

In case you didn't know...

As is usually the case in the weeks following WrestleMania, Raw has experienced a boost in viewership during April. With the post-Mania Raw drawing a massive 3.767 million viewers, the company are closer than they have been in a long time to once again hitting that 4 million mark.

The heart of the matter

As confirmed in the report the first hour drew 3.405 million viewers, the second drew 3.469 million viewers and the final hour dropped substantially with just 3.165 million viewers. The red brand was #3 on cable for the evening in terms of viewership, behind the two NBA playoff games that were being broadcast on TNT - Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers.

What's next?

With the show dropping in viewership for a second consecutive week, it seems likely that Vince will do something drastic in the next month or so to inject another burst of life into the product. These kind of figures aren't necessarily worrying for the company, but the boss will want to try and create another surge of momentum soon heading into SummerSlam.

Author's take

The viewing figures don't necessarily mean too much to us and they shouldn't to WWE either because they've also got international fans across the world to consider. From a financial standpoint, the company is doing better than ever and while it would be cool to see them break 4 million for the first time in a while, we should still be impressed that after all these years they're still reaching these kinds of figures.
