WWE News: Triple H discloses what he looks for when scouting wrestlers

The Performance Center has been a major facilitator in recruiting international talent

What’s the story?

Triple H recently spoke to NBC Sports to promote NXT Takeover: Orlando. In the interview, he spoke about the procedure when it comes to scouting future talent for the WWE and the Performance Center.

In case you didn’t know...

The Performance Center has been home to WWE superstars in developmental since July 12th, 2013. It is home to stars from NXT and other recruits who are being trained to join NXT and eventually the main roster.

It took the place of the warehouse in Miami, Florida which was home to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), WWE’s developmental territory before NXT was turned into developmental.

WWE has been in global expansion mode in the past couple of years, recruiting talents from all ends of the globe. China has been one market WWE has been aggressively going at, signing multiple talents from there recently.

Triple H has openly stated that the talent’s nationality is never a criterion in the scouting process. However, there is no doubt that WWE’s global expansion relies on them having talents representing various countries.

The heart of the matter

Regarding the scouting of talents and what specifically he looks for, Triple H had the following to say:

“Look, I mean there are other factors as well. I don't want to make it sound like 'Oh, look at this guy he has a big personality and forget all of the rest of it.' Obviously athleticism, the willingness to do this, the desire to work hard, but then there's leadership qualities that we really look for.”

Hunter then went on to talk about why he pushes future Superstars to their limit in camps:

“When guys go to a camp, sometimes people watch them and go, 'You're just making these people throw-up in garbage can because you're working them so hard.' I want to push them to where they're really outside of their comfort range and then see what they do with it. It's really easy to be nice and be the perfect professional when you feel great, but when you're on the verge of puking in barrel and there's someone barking at you to do more and the guy next to you just fell on you because he's at the same place you are, do you help pick him up or do you curse at him and go about your own business?”

Triple H concluded by saying that he’s looking for leaders:

“There are differences in how people react to things. I'm looking for leaders. I'm looking for someone that can be a professional. I'm looking for the consummate athlete on all aspects. It's not just one thing, but if you ask me the one thing I look for, charisma is king."

What’s next?

Triple H will continue the global expansion and scouting of talents from all ends of the globe, and the course of WWE may change its course entirely.

Author’s take

If WWE wants to grow, global expansion is the only option. However, the traits that Triple H, William Regal, Robbie Brookside and Matt Bloom, among others look for are the correct combination required for a WWE Superstar.

It will be extremely interesting to see the diverse crop of talents that starts popping up in WWE.
