WWE News: The Undertaker could register his 100th PPV win at WrestleMania 33

The Big Dog vs. The Phenom is the that could make or break WrestleMania 33.

What’s the story?

In what could end up being a monumental moment for the Deadman, current stats show that Undertaker could pick up his 100th victory at pay-per-views if he somehow manages to defeat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33.

According to WrestlingData.com, The Phenom has wrestled 170 PPV matches, out which he has 5 draws, 99 wins, and 66 losses.

In case you didn’t know...

The Undertaker made a customary return at the Royal Rumble to kickstart the build-up of his WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns. The legend has made a couple of appearances on RAW, taking Reigns out with a chokeslam on one instance and getting laid out with a spear on the second and most recent episode of RAW.

WWE is aggressively pushing Reigns vs. Taker as the match that would determine the ‘Big Dog’ of the yard and it has unsurprisingly drawn a negative reaction, with a teased retirement angle of The Deadman further drawing the ire of the IWC.

The heart of the matter

Undertaker wrestled his first PPV on November 22nd, 1990 at Survivor Series and has gone on to script a 27-year-long career, with an astonishing total of 2274 (170 on PPV) matches under his belt. His most recent PPV match was at the Royal Rumble where he took part in the traditional 30-man Battle Royal and was eliminated by Reigns himself.

If Undertaker does manage to beat the Big Dog at WrestleMania, he will become the first ever superstar to reach 100 PPV wins, with John Cena currently second in the ranking at 88 wins out of his 149 PPV matches. But will it happen? Highly unlikely we say!

What’s next?

With the storyline build-up and considering how well Reigns has been booked, Undertaker isn’t expected to notch up his 100th win at the show of shows in Orlando, Florida. As much as the fans would like to see Undertaker destroy Reigns, current rumors and odds clearly point to Reigns walking out of WrestleMania as the man who owns the yard.

The Undertaker’s current health and issues with his hip point to a short match with Reigns ultimately going over at the end of it all.

Author’s take

As much as I would like to see Undertaker pull off the historic win at his stomping grounds, a loss to Reigns is just out of the question in the current scenario. Reigns is the first man to beat Braun Strowman, and is expected to face Lesnar for the Universal title later on in the year. So all the hopes of Taker creating history can be tucked away for now.

WWE should incorporate this stat into their storyline as it could add another dimension to an otherwise average feud. For a match that could be Undertaker’s last, WWE can do much better. But is it too late now? I’m afraid it is and all we can hope is for Reigns and Undertaker to put on a solid match. On a tantalizing side note, Braun Strowman could be the wild card and have a big influence on the eventual outcome of the bout.
