WWE: Predictions for Battleground

CM Punk takes on Ryback at Battleground

CM Punk takes on Ryback at Battleground

We’re merely hours away from the next WWE PPV, Battleground. Going into the event, WWE hasn’t done a whole lot to build a head of steam, but things can change drastically come Sunday.

The main event of the night will see Daniel Bryan taking on Randy Orton for the vacant WWE championship, while Rob Van Dam will get another chance to exact some revenge as he takes on Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight championship.

The other matches on the card feature CM Punk taking on Ryback, while AJ Lee defends her Divas title against Brie Bella. The other main match on the card features the Rhodes brothers with the legendary ‘American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes by their side taking on the WWE Tag Team champions, The Shield.

Also, Curtis Axel puts the prestigious WWE Intercontinental championship on the line against R – Truth, while Bray Wyatt looks to add one more martyr to his list as he takes on Kofi Kingston.

Pre – show match:

Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow

This match should have been the main event, considering Ziggler was the World Heavyweight champion not so long ago and Sandow is currently holding his ticket to fame: The MitB briefcase. Ziggler has been in the WWE doghouse for a while, and Sandow’s night might not end during the pre – show. Expect “The show off” to pick up the victory during the pre show, while the intellectual saviour of the masses cashes in after the RVD – ADR match on the main card.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Main card:

Bray Wyatt (With Luke and Erick) vs. Kofi Kingston

Wyatt’s list of victims has been impressive so far. From Kane to the Tons of Funk, Bray has laid waste to every superstar in his path, and now has his sights set on Kofi Kingston. With Wyatt issuing a challenge to Kofi, this match was made official this past week. The Wyatt Family’s impressive run won’t likely end this Sunday, as Bray Wyatt adds Kofi’s name to the list of fallen superstars.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

Curtis Axel (With Paul Heyman) vs. R-Truth for the WWE Intercontinental championship

Axel will finally defend the Intercontinental championship on a PPV, as he will go one on one against R – Truth. Truth already defeated Axel in a non – title match a couple of weeks ago, which would imply that Axel will retain the title this Sunday.

Axel’s run has been far from impressive, and although Heyman has been managing Axel, he has been nothing more than an afterthought in the current storyline between Heyman and Punk. Axel will retain the title come Sunday, although it doesn’t make much of a difference at this point.

Winner and still the Intercontinental champion: Curtis Axel

AJ Lee vs. Brie Bella for the WWE Divas championship

AJ and the cast of Total Divas have been going at it for some time now, and this Sunday, AJ will defend her Divas title against the soon to be Mrs. Daniel Bryan (Or Bryan Danielson), Brie Bella. Brie, in all likeliness, will win the Divas title to further the storyline rivalry which will eventually see AJ becoming a part of the season 2 cast of Total Divas. I don’t like the fact that Brie will win the title, but all the signs point to that happening come Sunday at Battleground.

Winner and the new Divas champion: Brie Bella

Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam (With Ricardo Rodriguez) in a Hardcore match for the World Heavyweight championship

Okay, I’m calling it right now. Damien Sandow will leave the Niagara Center as the new World Heavyweight champion. RVD is set to take some time off from the WWE after Battleground, and with the PPV happening in New York, WWE will likely go with RVD beating Alberto Del Rio for the World championship, only to lose it to Damien Sandow when he cashes in his money in the bank contract. Alberto’s run has been lackluster, and it is about time Sandow cashes in his contract, and all that can possibly happen at Battleground.

Winner and the new World Heavyweight champion: Rob Van Dam

CM Punk vs. Ryback (With Paul Heyman)

Let’s be honest – Punk, Heyman and Daniel Bryan are the three major (Or only, depending on your interest) draws for this PPV, or any other PPV for that matter. Punk and Heyman always deliver on the mic and Punk always seems to deliver in the ring. This is why the Punk – Heyman feud has been the feud of the year hands down. Punk will now face Ryback (Although majority of the fans don’t even understand why Ryback was involved in this feud to begin with) which will likely be the penultimate bout in this program. Punk has been without a win on PPVs for a while now, and this Sunday, he can right those wrongs by beating Ryback.

Winner: CM Punk

Goldust and Cody Rhodes (With Dusty Rhodes) vs. The Shield (Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins with Dean Ambrose)

I have my qualms about WWE going in this route, but most of the old school fans will be fascinated by the storyline, which stems out of real life animosity (at least in the past) between the Rhodes family and the McMahons. Dusty will be in the corner of his sons while they take on The Shield, with the stipulation that if The Shield wins, Dusty will join his sons in the unemployment line and if the Rhodes brothers manage to pick up the victory, they will both be reinstated in the company. This feud has a lot of potential, but I believe even this will go nowhere in the end.

Winner (s): The Rhodes brothers

Daniel Bryan faces Randy Orton for the vacant WWE championship

Daniel Bryan faces Randy Orton for the vacant WWE championship

Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton for the WWE championship

In the main event of the night, Bryan will take on Orton for the vacant WWE championship. This angle has quickly fizzled out due to the nonsensical booking on the part of the creative, and if rumours are to be believed, this feud will culminate at the next PPV. Daniel Bryan will win the bout but Triple H will yet again find a way to keep Bryan at bay. Although I like the cat and mouse game going on between Triple H and Daniel Bryan, this has to stop soon. I guess I can take the “Evil boss backstabbing the employee” route one last time.

Winner and the new WWE champion: Daniel Bryan
