WWE RAW: Superstar ratings for January 20th

Del Rio

Del Rio

The final RAW before the Royal Rumble PPV saw the return of The Animal, Batista. Although the episode wasn’t as eventful of effective as it could’ve been, there were a few superstars who stepped up their game in the absence of someone like Daniel Bryan, who wasn’t cleared to compete on the show. The beast incarnate, Brock Lesnar was also present on the show, which brought the much needed interest to an otherwise dull card. So who were the five superstars who impressed the WWE Universe? Let’s find out in our superstar ratings for the week.

5. CM Punk

At number 5 is the Straight Edge Messiah, CM Punk. CM Punk took on Billy Gunn this week on RAW, and once again defied the odds by winning the bout. CM Punk is currently involved in a feud against The Authority, well, at least with the members, and rumour has it that Punk will be facing Triple H at WrestleMania 30. Although I don’t think that’s the right way to go, it would give Punk yet another high profile match at the “Grand daddy of Entertainment”. Nonetheless, Punk is still one of the better performers in the organization, and his impressive performance this week earns him the number 5 spot on our list.

Rating: ** ½

4. Big E Langston

Big E Langston is one of the fastest rising superstars in the WWE at the moment. The WWE officials are impressed with the work ethic of the big man, and are keen to make him one of the top superstars in the near future. This week on RAW, he teamed up with Goldust and Cody Rhodes to take on the three members of The Shield. Big E put up yet another impressive performance, laying waste to the likes of Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. The finishing sequence with Reigns – Langston – Ambrose and Rollins was outstanding, and to no one’s surprise, he made it to our list of the top 5 superstars on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW.

Rating: ** ¾

3. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns was once again impressive in the tag team match which kicked off the show. Reigns, along with Ambrose and Rollins took on the team of Goldust, Cody Rhodes and Big E Langston. Roman Reigns has impressed the WWE management, and with his physique helping his case, he is on course for a major push in the coming months. This week, Reigns once again helped The Shield in getting yet another victory over the WWE Tag Team champions, and that earns him the number 3 spot in our list of the top 5 superstars from the show.

Rating: ***

2. Rey Mysterio

The former Royal Rumble winner and World Heavyweight champion has been inactive in the past few years in professional wrestling, but has finally made a return to the WWE in the New Year. Rey Mysterio is one of the most decorated Luchadores in professional wrestling history, and he once again took on Alberto Del Rio, for the third time in a week, and this was by far one of their best encounters. Rey and Del Rio put on a solid TV match that saw Del Rio defeating his old nemesis. Nevertheless, this performance earns Mysterio the number 2 spot on our list.

Rating: *** ¼

1. Alberto Del Rio

We all know that Del Rio is one of the best workers in the company. We also know that Del Rio was loved in Mexico as Dos Caras Jr., for being one of the most talented Luchadores in the industry. For the past year, Del Rio has been lost in the shuffle, as the former World Heavyweight champion has been finding it hard to get back in the contender’s list for the WWE World Heavyweight championship. He did himself no harm this week by putting on an excellent match along with Rey Mysterio. Although Del Rio later succumbed to a Batista Bomb, he earned the number 1 spot on our list for this week’s top 5 superstars from RAW.

Rating: *** ½
