The 2021 Royal Rumble may have only had six matches on the official card, but the show was a stacked event.

The Road to WrestleMania has officially begun and the two 2021 Royal Rumble winners now hotly anticipate their chance to become Champion at WrestleMania. For Edge, this will be his opportunity at a 12th World Championship and his chance to win back the title that he never lost, whilst Bianca Belair is still in the hunt for her first-ever WWE Championship.

The Women's Tag Team Championship were the only titles to change hands on the night after Lacey Evans was able to help Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler to reclaim their titles, but she later paid for it in the Royal Rumble match.

As noted, it was a night that was full of hard-hitting action and included several WWE stars who hadn't stepped in the ring for a long time, which could be why there were several interesting botches and mistakes throughout.

#5. Goldberg botches the Jackhammer at The Royal Rumble

The Royal Rumble's main show kicked off with the WWE Championship match between Drew McIntyre and Goldberg and it was exactly as the WWE Universe believed it would be.

It was a short match that saw the WWE Hall of Famer hit his usual spears and a Jackhammer to try to claim another WWE Championship. Last year when Goldberg took on The Fiend in Saudi Arabia and became Universal Champion, he won the title after a botched Jackhammer, which instead looked like a suplex.

Last night at the Royal Rumble Goldberg hit the same botched Jackhammer in his match against Drew McIntyre as the move lost its effectiveness and once again looked like a suplex. Luckily, this time around McIntyre kicked out and the match continued.

In the end, it was Goldberg who was lying on his back for the three-count following an emphatic Claymore from the WWE Champion, since Goldberg had already kicked out of one Claymore earlier in the match. Interestingly, the two men then embraced after the match came to an end which seemingly ended their story.

This now leaves the question of who will the WCW legend step up to challenge at this year's WrestleMania now that he's made peace with Drew McIntyre?

#4. Carmella overshoots herself out of the ring at The Royal Rumble

Carmella was handed another shot at the SmackDown Women's Championship at last night's Royal Rumble but once again came up short to The Boss.

Sasha Banks even had to contend with Reginald at ringside and was still able to come out on top after Carmella's associate was sent to the back following an altercation with The Boss.

It was whilst Banks' back was turned that Carmella decided to deliver a dive out of the ring to take Banks by surprise, but instead, it meant that her opponent was unable to catch her in time and she landed on her face.

It was reminiscent of the time that Lita delivered the same move to Trish Stratus and suffered a broken neck, but luckily Carmella was able to get straight-up following the move and continue the match.

The ending of the match at the Royal Rumble definitely wasn't what the Untouchable star had planned since Carmella was locked in The Bank Statement and forced to tap.

#3. The Women's Royal Rumble match

The Women's Royal Rumble match included several surprise entries including many women from NXT and even legends like Jillian Hall, Victoria, and Alicia Fox.

The Royal Rumble match was also invaded by R-Truth and several stars who were looking to claim the 24/7 Championship after Truth ran out to be part of the match but didn't realize that it was the wrong one.

In the midst of all of the chaos, there were some awkward moments between several legends when it came to taking and delivering moves, Jillian managed to get her microphone stuck in her hair but WWE moved the camera away so that she had the time to fix it.

It seemed a common thing throughout The Rumble that WWE was able to avoid many botches because the camera moved at the right time which is one of the luxuries of not having a live audience.

The botches didn't affect the match overall and despite many fans believing there wouldn't be many surprises, there were ample shocks to keep the WWE Universe occupied.

#2. The Men's Royal Rumble match

When 30 men are thrown into a Royal Rumble match and there are several legends who are brought in at the last minute, there is obviously room for error.

Last night's Royal Rumble match was further proof of this as once again the men of WWE struggled to contain the botches and mistakes throughout.

Whilst there were several awkward moments where moves didn't hit or where stars were set to hit moves and someone wasn't ready, one of the most noticeable moments was when John Morrison made his entrance.

Morrison came into the ring and had an altercation with Shinsuke Nakamura where he was able to dodge his kick and land one of his own. Sadly, the camera was in the perfect position to see that the kick that Morrison landed was miles away from its intended target.

Morrison didn't go on to last very long in the match either since The Miz got on the wrong side of Bad Bunny and Damian Priest was able to take advantage and eliminate both men in one fell swoop.

#1. Roman Reigns is unable to answer the 10-count at The Royal Rumble

Roman Reigns defended his Universal Championship against Kevin Owens in a Last Man Standing match at last night's Royal Rumble but it wasn't a match that went to plan.

Owens and Reigns brawled all over the arena and had several near falls when the referee began the 10-count, but it was the end of the match that many fans noticed there was a problem.

Reigns was handcuffed to steel fixtures by Owens before the referee started the count and the champion was able to take out the WWE official so that he could keep hold of his title.

The issue here was that WWE sent out a new referee for their match and Reigns was still in the same position and couldn't get out of his handcuffs. Paul Heyman came over to help and the official got to the count of five before stopping despite Reigns still being sat down.

It took a long time for Heyman to finally get the handcuffs off Reigns and the poor official was just standing at the side unable to do anything because he knew that Reigns needed to retain his championship at the Royal Rumble.
