Why a heel should win the WWE World Heavyweight titles

Title contenders John Cena and Randy Orton

John Cena reported to win the titles in his hometown but he should not

On Sunday at the TD Garden in Boston, WWE will showcase its Money in the Bank Pay per View. The night just like its predecessors will consist of two ladder matches and it’s hardly bewildering that they are hyping up the main event which consists of the 8 superstars that the company thinks are the big players of the current roster. As far as reports go, John Cena is touted to literally come out on top as the winner in his hometown. But as far back as I can remember, he isn’t quite the hometown hero. The split reaction he gets applies to his hometown as well. And even though he is the most bankable star in the company, it is my opinion that the titles should be won by a heel.

Okay, so John Cena winning might set up a future feud which sees Daniel Bryan returning from injury. Their feud heading up to Summerslam was awesome and so was their match given that John Cena lost. But then John Cena went to recover from his injury and Daniel Bryan started his still continuing feud with the Authority. Though a second feud with Cena is welcome given that the first one was a success story, the timing seems to be messed up for the long term. Why would Daniel Bryan feud with a babyface when he is still fighting the Authority. That just makes the Authority seem irrelevant if Bryan is to face Cena. And Cena will be given to do his savior shtick and do what has took Bryan almost a year to do- stomp on the Authority with authority. And in that process completely disregard Bryan’s struggle till now.

A heel should win to keep the Authority storyline going

But having a winner who will have the outside support of the Authority is what makes sense unless they decide to cut off the Authority storyline.Randy Orton, Alberto Del Rio, Kane, Bray Wyatt and Cesaro are the heels in this match while John Cena, Sheamus and Roman Reigns are the babyfaces. They had Orton win the briefcase last year and that led to a pretty lame title reign dominated by the whims and fancies of his bosses. Having him win again this year and having him win the titles again will just be dull. It just means that Creative has nothing for anybody. That will be atrocious at this stage.

Sheamus is already a champion and while he still does not have any storyline or compelling promos, what are the chances that Creative will have something for him if he wins another two titles? Three titles together? That’s an unseen sight in the WWE. And just for the unseen reason, Sheamus will not win.

Alberto Del Rio has been inconsistent as a heel and a face but still almost always finds himself in a main event or quasi main event. That is quite perplexing. If he wins, that’ll be even more perplexing. But you never know, he can just surprise us again. But the sun still rises from the east and Creative usually has nothing for Del Rio either so I’m going to put my money on Del Rio not winning.Kane is a veteran. Might get one last shot with the titles and he seems to be an ideal choice for Bryan to return and grab back the titles from. Isn’t he the one responsible for his injuries? That seems apt and this might be Kane’s final biggest victory in the WWE.

Roman Reigns is one of the fan favourites to win the titles

Roman Reigns winning will be interesting for the future

Roman Reigns is an interesting case at point. The point is that it is apparent that the Authority is after him. His chances can be ruined in the final moments of the match or he can win and be on the receiving end of the MITB briefcase winner. If WWE pulls that off, that’ll be quite a sight. But in both cases, Roman Reigns will have quite a starry night and a feud in the builds with Triple H.

Bray Wyatt and Cesaro are the dark horses. If they win, that will be the biggest boost to their fledgling WWE careers. Here’s another thing- Cena’s speculated victory will rub more salt to the wound created by him on Bray Wyatt’s momentum. That’ll be such a facepalm having Wyatt watch a man he could not make his follower get the best of him again.

All in all, it’s an interesting dynamic of sorts. It can set up to be quite a cliffhanger.
