Bayer Leverkusen fans celebrated a historic Bundesliga campaign, which saw their team claim their first league title in club history. During the season finale against Augsburg at home (Saturday, May 18), Leverkusen fans in the stadium sent a message to their rivals Koln, who couldn't avoid relegation.
As Koln finished 17th in the standings with 27 points and will play in the second division next year, journalist Dan Wighton took to X to share a photo of a banner that read:
"Goodbye you sons of bit***s."
Bayer Leverkusen won both games against their rivals this season en route to becoming the first team in Bundesliga history to finish the season unbeaten. Xabi Alonso's team had 28 wins and six draws in 34 games. Their undefeated record across all competitions is now at 51 games.

The German club shift their attention to the German Cup Final against Kaiserslautern on May 25 (Saturday) and the Europa League Final against Atalanta on May 22 (Wednesday).

The Basque coach called the campaign 'exceptional' for Bayer Leverkusen, but he has now shifted his attention to the treble.
"It is an exceptional season, not only in Germany but in Europe. We deserve now to be part of that history of European football. In 20 years we will look back and we will say ‘we did that.’ It is an important day for the club. We have to be proud of the way we played. 90 points and undefeated. We need a bit more time to value this title... But we have no time because we have the next big goal. It is unique opportunity," Alonso told reporters, per Reuters (h/t CNN.com).
Should they win the treble, they will become only the second team in German football history to accomplish it. The other one are their rivals Bayern Munich, who have done it twice (2013, 2020).
