Jürgen Klopp will be replaced as Liverpool manager by Arne Slot

Jurgen Klopp announced his successor as Liverpool manager in the most unexpected fashion as he chanted the name of Arne Slot during his exit speech. Feyenoord manager Slot is expected to take over the reins at Anfield after Klopp, with an agreement already in place to this effect.

Earlier this year, Klopp announced that he would leave the Reds at the end of the season to bring to an end his nine-year spell in charge. The German manager won the Carabao Cup in his final season but saw a Premier League title challenge fall by the wayside.

Liverpool won the final game of the Jurgen Klopp era in convincing fashion by two unanswered goals against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield. The match had a festive feel from before it even began, as the fans amplified the occasion, being the last time playing under Klopp.

Following the full-time whistle, the German manager delivered a parting speech to the Liverpool faithful, and he managed to insert a mini-announcement. Klopp chanted the name of Arne Slot in a sing-song manner, effectively confirming what has been known for weeks now.

Slot emerged as the leading candidate to replace Klopp after Xabi Alonso turned down an opportunity to manage at Anfield. The Dutch manager practically announced himself last week, but the Reds had given no clear indication from their end.

Slot won the KNVB Cup with Feyenoord this season, just as Klopp won the Carabao Cup with the Reds. The German manager will be a hard act to follow, given the unanimous love and support he enjoyed from the Liverpool faithful and the success he brought to the club.

Liverpool end Jurgen Klopp era with win over Wolves

The Jurgen Klopp era came to an end on Sunday afternoon as Liverpool cruised to a 2-0 win over Wolves, who stuck to the script at Anfield. The Reds finished third in the league behind Manchester City and Arsenal, and Klopp bowed out with three points.

The Reds were given a huge helping hand when Nelson Semedo received his marching orders two minutes shy of the half-hour mark. They then took the lead when midfielder Alexis Mac Allister headed home in the 34th minute following a pinpoint delivery from Harvey Elliott.

Fittingly, academy graduate Jarell Quansah bundled home the final goal of the Klopp era just six minutes later to wrap up the win. They dominated the second half but didn't add to their tally as Klopp won his 299th match at the club.
