With the recent announcement of GTA 6 launching in fall 2025, speculation arises regarding the fate of GTA Online updates in 2024. The multiplayer game may continue receiving content updates or DLCs even after Grand Theft Auto 6 is launched. However, the GTA Online player base might start declining after the next game comes out.

Rockstar could capitalize on this period by releasing GTA Online updates that address long-standing fan requests. Here's a rundown of features these DLCs should include:

5 things the next GTA Online updates should have

1) Fun new missions that are easier to start

The Cluckin Bell Farm Raid Heist, released earlier this year, was one of the most unique GTA Online updates in a long time. This DLC released a short series of missions, which were essentially mini-heists. These missions offer the added advantage of starting almost instantly, without the need for typical setup missions

Plus, there's no hefty investment required in properties. Rockstar should prioritize the introduction of more of these missions in upcoming content updates.

2) More lucrative money-making opportunities

While new and more accessible missions in GTA Online updates are welcome, players also need better money-making opportunities. This is because, while Rockstar has nerfed some of the best money-makers, like the Cayo Perico heist, they've also introduced incredibly expensive vehicles and properties.

The next GTA Online updates should, therefore, focus on new and more lucrative passive money-making properties, or increase the payouts on a few existing heists. Another method would be to provide temporary bonuses to some missions for a short duration.

3) More regular cars instead of supercars

The Chop Shop DLC, released in December 2023, introduced some unique cars like the Impaler LX and the Impaler SZ, along with some cop cars and SUVs. Fans have shown great appreciation for these updates, signaling a positive reception. Subsequently, there's been a growing demand for more ordinary cars rather than an influx of supercars and hypercars.

Before launching the next game, Rockstar should prioritize releasing more regular cars through upcoming GTA Online updates.

4) More story-mode characters

There has been intense speculation about whether or not the upcoming summer update will bring Michael to Grand Theft Auto Online. Franklin was brought after much pleading, so hopefully, the next few GTA Online updates have something to do with Michael or other story-mode characters like Lamar or even Trevor.

Short Trips is probably the best and most engaging part of The Contract DLC, and it features both Franklin and Lamar in a series of co-op missions.

5) A new map expansion

The Cayo Perico Heist is the only DLC that has introduced a whole new map expansion to Grand Theft Auto Online. Rockstar could bring new additions to the map with the next GTA Online updates, such as a new island or a city, like Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto 4. The recently leaked Grand Theft Auto 5 source code revealed that Rockstar was indeed planning to add Liberty City as an expansion.

There's ample time to make this a reality, and fans would love to revisit such a classic location from the series.
