Daniel Cormier believes fans are "getting to" Jon Jones, reacts to recent DM conversation drama: "Coward no, but he's still insecure"

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will forever be linked to one another after taking part in one of mixed martial arts' most iconic rivalries. While fighters often bury the hatchet when one walks away from the sport, that does not appear to be the case with these two legendary champions. 'DC' recently weighed in on a recent DM conversation 'Bones' had with a fan, labeling the heavyweight champion as insecure.

Speaking on his self-titled YouTube channel, Cormier read the back-and-forth between the two, in which Jones claimed he was receiving $15 million to face Stipe Miocic, before adding:

"Jones wrote that. I'm telling you right now as a guy that has exchanged direct messages with him that he wrote that. I think he wrote that. I could be proven wrong. It sounds like something he would write because it's something he gets to brag about and it's something that he feels justifies what he is doing and if he's making $15 million? He should be fighting Stipe Miocic, right? It's almost like asking someone to win the lottery, but say I don't want the ticket."

He continued:

"Of course he's going to fight him if he's making $15 million. A lot of times fans will just say rude s**t that they think will hurt you and it doesn't make sense, but that fan was not as off as some might think because when you say all that money and you're still as insecure as you are - coward, no, but he's still insecure.

"Jones does have some insecurities, as we all do, but his are just on display for the world to see and time and time again he has shown that, but if this dude is out here talking to fans right now, they're getting to him."

Jones has faced criticism from some fans for facing Miocic instead of Tom Aspinall. It is important to note, however, that the two were scheduled to face one another at UFC 295 prior to 'Bones' tearing the tendon that connects the pectoral muscle to the bone.

While Aspinall was able to capture interim heavyweight title in his absence, the UFC and both fighters have shared that the bout will continue as planned. Rumors have suggested that Jones will defend his heavyweight title at UFC 309, which is set to take place at Madison Square Garden in November.

Tom Aspinall claims Jon Jones is playing games

Tom Aspinall will defend his interim heavyweight title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in Manchester this summer. He recently accused Jon Jones of playing games by continuing with his plan to face Stipe Miocic in his first title defense. Speaking on his self-titled YouTube channel, the No.1-ranked heavyweight stated:

"Well, I've made it pretty clear that I want to fight Jones. I'm not going to go out my - I'm not going to start acting like someone that I'm not. Do you know what I mean? I spoke to Jon Jones online, I spoke to Jon Jones privately, I spoke to Jon Jones personally, publicly. There's not a lot more that I can do. Jon Jones is playing games. He doesn't want the fight."

Aspinall has publicly called for the bout on several occasions, despite never being offered a title fight by the UFC. It remains to be seen if a fight between the two will happen down the line, or if Jones will continue his plans to retire after defending the title.
