How do ESPN Fantasy Football Playoffs Work?

NFC Championship - San Francisco 49ers v Los Angeles Rams
How do ESPN Fantasy Football Playoffs Work?

For the Public Leagues' regular season, ESPN Fantasy Football has designated 14 weeks. This parameter is locked and can't be changed.

Each league's top four clubs advance to the postseason. The two division leaders and the two wild-card sides make up these four. The sides that come out victorious in their respective divisions are considered division winners. Wild card sides come in second and third based on the tiebreaker.

The ESPN Fantasy Football playoffs come after the 14-game regular season but earlier than the NFL postseason games.

The algorithm automatically creates a seed for every side in the league depending on the regular season results when a league enters Playoff Mode.

The tiebreaker procedures below apply if two or more clubs finish the regular season with the same win percentage.

Tiebreaker – how to separate teams tied at the end of the season in ESPN Fantasy Football

1. Use their head-to-head record;

If any two teams are tied on points at the end of the regular season, the first tiebreaker sequence that will be considered is the h2h record. The team that won when the two teams faced off in the regular season will go through. If the two teams didn't face each other during the regular season, then the h2h sequence can't be used.

2. The team that recorded the most wins will go through

3. Intra-Divisional Record;

This is the third sequence considered. Any team with a better head-to-head record within the same division will go through.

4. Points against will be considered next

5. Coin toss;

If there's nothing to separate these two teams at the end of everything, then the last resort will be to toss a coin. This will leave the fate of these two teams in the hands of luck.

How do they seed teams in ESPN Fantasy Football playoffs?

The regular season rankings determine a team's playoff seed, opponent, and schedule.

The top seed in the playoffs will go to the side with the highest overall record. The squad would have also claimed its division. The second seed will be the divisional champion with the second-best record, and so on. The remaining seedings will be chosen based on total win/loss statistics.

To prepare for the fantasy football playoffs, players should study their league rules to see how the playoffs are established. If a player has any queries about the number of clubs that can participate in the playoffs, scheduling, trade regulations, etc., they should ask their league commissioner.
