In the past, there was heavy speculation regarding a certain former WWE champion making his way to AEW, but nothing came to fruition. Recent reports have said that the promotion has still not closed the door to this possibility. The rumored former champion would be Goldberg.

Previously, Tony Khan revealed that he had been in conversations with the WWE Hall of Famer, but did not say much regarding the content of these talks. This fueled rumors of the possibility of him being a new signing for AEW, but seeing as it has been more than half a year since then, many have been wondering what the latest update on this would be.

On a recent edition of Fightful Select's Q&A Podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked by a fan regarding what could be next for Goldberg. He mentioned that every time he would ask AEW regarding this, they have always said there were no immediate plans for this. They apparently haven't closed the door to anything related to the Hall of Famer.

"So its funny 'cause there have been AEW rumors here and there about Goldberg, and everytime I'd ask, I'd just be told, 'Well not right now, not right now.' Definitely didn't close the door on it, but he's not getting any younger."

Former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle says he's open to facing Goldberg in AEW

Matt Riddle recently got to talk about a match he never got to have during his time with WWE, and this was a match against wrestling legend Goldberg.

During an online conversation with Signed by Superstars, he talked about this dream match of his, and how he could bring out the best in the WWE Hall of Famer. But he then clarified that in the end, this would only be possible if Goldberg agreed to it.

"You know, I don’t wanna give too much, but I personally would love to work [with] William [Goldberg]. I think me and Goldberg would be a great match. I think I could get something out of him that people haven’t seen in years, and I think it’d be great for business. I know it’d be really great for me, but at the end of the day, you can’t — you know, if he wants to do it, he’ll do it. If he needs to do it, he’ll do it," he said.

He then talked about where this could take place as he was not with WWE anymore. He named several promotions such as AEW, TNA, and even NJPW, but named All Elite Wrestling as the most probable setting for the match.

"I mean, there are a couple of places we could do that. I would imagine maybe an AEW, maybe a TNA, maybe a New Japan, but if it was gonna happen, it’d probably be AEW," Riddle added. [H/T: PostWrestling]

It still remains to be seen where Goldberg makes his next appearance, and which major promotion he signs with.
