Jujutsu Kaisen characters are always in danger of dying, which is part of the series' appeal to many people, and the current battle against Ryomen Sukuna in the manga is perhaps the best example of that. The strongest sorcerer in history is a force of nature, and he has proven to be a monumental challenge to the protagonists. He even went as far as defeating and murdering Satoru Gojo, who most fans viewed as nearly invincible.

However, after the events of chapter 258 in the manga, it seems that Sukuna is about to unleash the entirety of his strength. It is interesting to see which Jujutsu Kaisen characters are bound to survive and who will not make it. In that regard, here are, in no particular order, four Jujutsu Kaisen characters who might die against Sukuna in the coming chapters and four who are likely safe. This list focuses on characters who are currently fighting Sukuna.

Four Jujutsu Kaisen characters who can die against Sukuna in the coming chapters

1. Choso

When it comes to Jujutsu Kaisen characters who could die fighting Sukuna, Choso is one of the strongest candidates. This is because the character has suffered multiple wounds throughout this battle and is least likely to have a future.

Choso, by all accounts, is an outsider from the rest of the world because of his status as a Cursed Womb and doesn't quite belong with the rest of the human race. While his connection with Yuji Itadori as brothers has been compelling, it is difficult to see a future for Choso by the end of the series. It is also likely he will sacrifice himself so the protagonist can have a chance to defeat Sukuna.

2. Ui Ui

Few Jujutsu Kaisen characters have been as useful in the battle against Sukuna as Ui Ui, which is surprising to many readers. Mei Mei's younger brother has been instrumental in teleporting the wounded sorcerers to Ioiri Shoko and healing them. He has also been helping them during their training with the body-swapping technique.

Considering that Sukuna already wanted to kill him before Miguel's arrival, it is very likely that the King of Curses has already put a target on him. It would make sense for Sukuna to get rid of someone who can take his enemies to safety and allow them to get healed to fight again. So, it would fit author Gege Akutami's writing to murder Ui Ui so there is a bit more tension.

3. Yuta Okkotsu

Yuta's case might be one of the most interesting among these Jujutsu Kaisen characters because his current status is not fully confirmed. When Yuji Itadori managed to reach out to Megumi Fushiguro and the latter rejected his help, Ryomen Sukuna used his slashes to cast the protagonist and Yuta away before his battle with Maki Zen'in.

This is the last time Yuta, with 258 published chapters so far, has been shown in the manga. However, it is difficult to picture Akutami killing his first protagonist without a proper conclusion to his journey. Considering his power and abilities, it is likely that Yuta will come back in the upcoming few chapters and be helpful to his allies, even if it is only to die at the hands of the King of Curses.

4. Takuma Ino

Much like Ui Ui, Ino is one of those Jujutsu Kaisen characters who surpassed people's expectations in the battle against Sukuna. While it is true that he is far weaker than his opponent, Ino has come back to the battle time and time again because he wants to honor his mentor, Nanami Kento, and also to help save the world in the process.

However, Ino is also the least developed and relevant character in the current battle, so it makes sense that he is among the Jujutsu Kaisen characters bound to die in the coming chapters. If Sukuna goes all out, there is very little chance that Ino could survive.

1. Maki Zen'in

Despite being a fan-favorite, there is a good argument to be made that Maki has been the worst performer thus far in the battle against Sukuna after Hajime Kashimo's quick defeat. It makes a lot of sense when considering that she has no Cursed Energy, which is why she can only rely on raw strength and her fighting skills, although it seems that she has also benefitted from Akutami's writing.

Sukuna has hit Maki with two Black Flashes and several of her slashes, so it is baffling that she has still managed to survive, considering other characters couldn't resist lesser attacks from the King of Curses. Therefore, it seems that Maki is a character that Akutami doesn't want to let go of, at least for now.

2. Mei Mei

If there is one choice among Jujutsu Kaisen characters currently fighting Sukuna that fans would like to see getting killed, that is Mei Mei. After leaving Shibuya and abandoning her comrades to die, along with the now-infamous scene with her younger brother Ui Ui, she has become one of the most hated characters in the series, and most fans would be happy to see her gone.

However, it seems like a cynical running joke by author Gege Akutami that Mei Mei will survive no matter what happens. Perhaps he finds a peculiar amusement in this decision or perhaps wants to portray how awful people can get away scot-free at times. However, it is worth pointing out that Mei Mei running away from the current confrontation would be very much in character.

3. Miguel

When Miguel first showed up to fight Sukuna, it was interesting to see what Gege Akutami had in store for the character since he hadn't physically appeared since volume 0. While most fans were expecting him to at least perform similarly to other Jujutsu Kaisen characters did against Sukuna, the truth is that his friend Larue, another one of Suguru Geto's comrades, has turned out to be of greater help in the confrontation, at least thus far.

Miguel never really wanted to fight Sukuna and only did so because Yuta and Larue, two people he was fond of, managed to convince him. Furthermore, the moment Yuji, Maki, Choso, and Ino come back into the battle, Miguel's first reaction is to get away from the conflict. Thus, it seems likely that he is going to survive as well.

4. Yuji Itadori

The reason why Yuji is the strongest candidate to survive among Jujutsu Kaisen characters in the battle against Sukuna is not only because of his status as the protagonist but also due to author Gege Akutami once famously stating that there was a good chance of all characters dying and only Yuji being kept alive. Considering how things are going in the manga, that seems a good possibility.

Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising that Yuji defeats Sukuna but ends up being the sole survivor of the battle. That could be a tragic ending for the character because he wouldn't have his friends anymore. However, considering the amount of people Yuji has lost, it seems to be what Akutami is going for with this manga.

Final thoughts

These Jujutsu Kaisen characters are likely to hold these fates by the end of the series, although Gege Akutami is known for throwing curve balls from time to time. However, considering how close the manga is to concluding, it seems that readers are getting their answers very soon.
