New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer and his wife, Erica May-Scherzer, announced the arrival of the "newest addition" to the Scherzer household - a baby girl, Nikki.

Scherzer shared the happy news on Twitter. He wrote:

Our newest addition to our family baby Nikki! Born 1-30-23.. All good and healthy now. Same B-Day as the wife lol.

Max Scherzer and Erika announced in August that they were expecting their fourth child. Erika shared a photo of the couple with their three children, Brooke, Kacey, and Derek Alexander, on Twitter and wrote:

"Our traveling circus is about to get a little crazier! Baby girl Scherzer joins us February 2023," she posted.

The New York Mets congratulated their star pitcher on social media, tweeting:

"Congrats to Max and Erica on the birth of their daughter!"

Max Scherzer joined the New York Mets from the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2021. After breaking up with the Detroit Tigers, Scherzer moved on to the Washington Nationals, where he quickly established himself as one of the game's best pitchers. In 2019, he and the Nationals won the World Series. He has secured 8 MLB All-Star nominations as well as three Cy Young Awards.

A boyhood St. Louis Cardinals fan, Scherzer went past Cardinals legendary pitcher Bob Gibson's record of 3,117 strikeouts in 2022. David Adler of MLB.com wrote:

In Scherzer's first start for the Mets out of the 2022 All-Star break, he recorded the 3,118th strikeout of his career to pass Gibson and move into 15th place on the all-time list, a special moment for Scherzer.
"That was my dad's favorite pitcher. I'm definitely going to give that ball to him," Scherzer said after the game. "For me as a kid, growing up, [Gibson] was one of my idols. I did book reports on him left and right. I know so much of his career and what he meant to the St. Louis Cardinals organization, obviously what he meant to my dad, and to me. To pass him, that's a huge thing for me personally."

The New York Mets will start the new season as one of the contenders for the World Series, and "Mad Max" will be determined to win the trophy for the second time in his career.

Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander spent five seasons as teammates with the Detroit Tigers from 2010 to 2014.

While much has been written about their alleged "frosty relationship", the Mets faithful are hopeful it won't be a problem as they chase their first World Series win since 1986.
