The New York Mets have announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea from free agency and president of baseball operations David Stearns had a few words of encouragement for the fans.

The 31-year-old veteran is an established major league pitcher who is coming off a decent season with the San Francisco Giants. Stearns spoke about Manaea's potential to add plenty of depth as he (most likely) joins the backend of the Mets' roster in 2024.

Sean Manaea was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 2013 MLB Draft but was traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2015.

The next year, he went on to make his major league debut for the Athletics and became a mainstay of their rotation despite several injuries.

In 2022, he was traded to the San Diego Padres and became a free agent at the end of the season.

Having signed a similar two-year contract with the Giants last year, Manaea chose to become a free agent and has now landed with the Mets, who are in dire need of major league pitchers.

He adds a much-needed left arm to the Mets' rotation and Stearns has given his take on why they chose to go with him:

“Sean is a valuable addition to our pitching staff who gives our rotation another strong left-handed option and we were very encouraged by what we saw from him in the second half last season.”

Latest reports suggest Sean Manaea's contract with the Mets is worth $28 million

While the details of left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea's contract with the New York Mets have not been revealed, some reports suggest that it is worth $28 million.

The team announced Manaea on Friday evening and only mentioned that the contract is for two years, with the player's option to opt out after the first year.

Colombian journalist and MLB analyst Jose Rafael Cadenas reports that the deal is worth $28 million over two years.
