Red Sox legend Curt Schilling once alleged "he was fired for being a conservative" by ESPN

In April 2016, Boston Red Sox veteran Curt Schilling was fired by ESPN after his divisive anti-transgender tirade received harsh condemnation for encouraging abusive Facebook responses.

The North Carolina law that prohibits transgender persons from using toilets was the subject of Schilling's piece. Despite the MLB player deleting the post, Outsports captured screenshots and posted them on their site.

Schilling was fired from his position at ESPN, as the company embraces the LGBTQ community.

Three years later, in September 2019, when the MLB star was involved in a fiery exchange with CNN host Michael Smerconish over getting fired by ESPN, he alleged that his infamous dismissal was down to his political opinions.

The controversy stemmed from ESPN broadcaster Jemele Hill's remarks in which she referred to President Donald Trump as a 'white supremacist' and got away with it.

“I wasn’t fired for speaking my mind. I was fired for being a conservative," said Schilling about his discharge.

Smerconish then referred to Schilling's social media statements against transgender bathroom policies as a 'cheap shot'.

Boston Red Sox veteran Curt Schilling was not ready to back down after his anti-transgender rant was criticized by CNN host Michael Smerconish.

Curt attacked Smerconish saying that his channel was trying to be bombastic to garner views.

“I get it; you guys work on getting ratings; you need to be bombastic, and you need to make assumptions for the viewers because you guys operate on the notion that we’re too stupid to speak for ourselves,” Schilling continued. “The fact of the matters is, my comment was around the fact I don’t need my government to tell me where to pee," said Curt.

He added:

"CNN has been at the vanguard from everything from the (Steele) fake Russia dossier, to calling Trump a white supremacist time after time, anchor after anchor with no validation, no support for the comments.”

Schilling played in MLB from 1988 to 2007. In 1993, he assisted in the Philadelphia Phillies' run to the World Series. He also won championship titles in 2001 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and in 2004 and 2007 with Red Sox. Currently, he works as a commentator for BlazeTV.
