Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose will require surgery after he injured his knee in a game against the Portland Trailblazers.

The surgery will be to repair a medial meniscus tear in the former MVP’s right knee. The All-Star point guard’s possible return date has not been announced and has been listed as out indefinitely until the procedure is done.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said, “He has pain and felt like he couldn’t push off the right knee,”

“I don’t want to speculate on what it is or what it might be other than my concern for him. I know how much work he’s put into his rehab, that’s the type of person he is, that’s the type of player he is. So concern for that, I feel for him because of all the things that he means to our team.”

Although it is not as serious an injury as the ACL tear he suffered in his other knee in 2012, an injury that caused him to miss the entire 2012-13 season, the timeline for his recovery has not yet been set. If his meniscus is removed, the recovery time will be shorter.
