Bob Myers believes nervousness is the cause behind Golden State Warriors’ slow start: “There’s a tense feeling and you can’t play basketball like that”

Bob Myers recently discussed his team's slow start to the season on "97.5 The Game." The president of basketball operations shared his thoughts on why the Golden State Warriors are struggling to win games early in the season:

“There’s a tense feeling and you can’t play basketball like that. You know that you just can’t play tight and our whole team is playing pretty tight. I mean, obviously number 30 didn’t look too tight at all.”

Additionally, the Golden State Warriors' chemistry between the young core and the veterans is getting in the way. No wonder Myers is feeling tension within the roster.

Bob Myers isn't thrilled with the Golden State Warriors' young core

In the same interview, Bob Myers said that the Golden State Warriors veterans are having problems with the newbies. This is due to their underwhelming performances at the start of the season. Even Myers is noticing how his young core isn't delivering what is expected from them. This is especially true for Jordan Poole.

Jordan Poole is currently shooting just 40.6% from the field, including 30.1% from 3-point range. He also has the worst plus-minus on the team (-97). Poole had his worst game of the year thus far in his team's 116-113 victory over the Sacramento Kings. In 22 minutes, he had only two points and three assists.

Bob Myers had some things to say about Poole on the radio show. One notable comment came when he took a subtle dig at the young star. Myers first acknowledged Poole's level of commitment to being the best he can be. His statements were then followed up by a discouraging remark:

“Jordan is fully engaged in being the best player he can be. That, we can’t make players do. He could’ve easily showered and went home last night. But he didn’t. And that shows a commitment level.”

It seems Bob Myers is also having trouble with Jonathan Kuminga and James Wiseman. According to NBC Sports, sending Kuminga and Wiseman to the G League is an option Myers is willing to explore. Both players have struggled for the Warriors so far this season.

"I think it's always an option, I know that in some people's minds it's a huge thing to do, I guess I don't view it the same," Myers said.

The Golden State Warriors' young core needs to clean up their act soon. Jordan Poole recently signed a four-year $123 million contract extension with the Warriors. If he continues to play like this, all that money will go to waste. Additionally, Jonathan Kuminga and James Wiseman need to establish their roles quickly if they want to stay on the main roster.
