Jaylen Nowell's contract details with Minnesota Timberwolves: Contract length, salary, and more

Jaylen Nowell was picked by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft. He signed a four-year $6.6 million deal with the team.

The former Washington Huskies standout was paid $1.4 million in his rookie year, $1.5 million after that and $1.7 million in his third season. In June last year, the Timberwolves exercised the team option to continue his stint in Minnesota for $1.9 million.

Jaylen Nowell will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2022-23 NBA season.

The Minnesota Timberwolves might want to keep him as a superb depth piece as Nowell is a solid combo guard. He is averaging a career-high 10.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg and 2.0 apg in just 19.3 minutes of action.

Nowell has played 64 games this season, starting in just two of them. He’s come off primarily as a backup to both Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell before the trade deadline and Mike Conley now.

Athleticism and speed are the things that stand out the most when Jaylen Nowell is on the floor. He’s also not afraid of the moment, which can sometimes work to his disadvantage. He is prone to taking ill-advised shots, especially when he’s well-covered.

Nowell is hitting 44.6% from the field but just 28.8% from behind the arc. He is the most efficient when attacking the rim (66.0% within three feet) because of his main traits.

Jaylen Nowell has been crucial for the Minnesota Timberwolves in a limited role. Per 36 minutes, he is averaging 20.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.8 apg and 1.2 spg. When bench depth becomes a requirement for playoff success, Nowell could be a big part of that for Minnesota.

After tonight’s victory against the Utah Jazz, the Minnesota Timberwolves improved their record to 38-37 in solo seventh place in the Western Conference. They are just half a game behind the Golden State Warriors (39-37) for the coveted sixth seed in their conference.

Overtaking the Warriors will allow them to avoid the dangerous and grueling play-in tournament. Minnesota beat the defending NBA champs last Sunday in San Francisco to tie their head-to-head matchup at two games apiece.

The Timberwolves currently hold the edge in the tiebreaker, which is their record in the west. Minnesota is 26-20 compared to Golden State’s 25-21 win-loss slate in their conference.

If the Minnesota Timberwolves go through via the direct route or the play-in tournament, Jaylen Nowell could be an important piece to have.

In tonight’s victory against the Sacramento Kings, he came off the bench to score 14 points to go with four rebounds and an assist. He was 6-for-11 from the field and did fairly well against the cat-quick Kings All-Star De’Aaron Fox.

This type of performance should make Jaylen Nowell valuable to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the playoffs.
