The Golden State Warriors will be impacted by Steph Curry’s injury. Anytime a team loses a star player for an extended period of time, it will have an impact. ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins feels that this will severely affect the Warriors' chances at defending their NBA championship.

“Is championship’s a bust…. Are they finished?” Perkins said.

On ESPN’s “First Take” Perkins said that the Western Conference is too stacked with good teams for the Warriors to overcome this setback. The Warriors (14-15) are in 10th place in the conference standings.

Perkins also brought up a point about the Warriors' roster depth with Curry out. Last season, the team had Moses Moody and Gary Payton II. The team also had Daniel Lee, who now plays for the Suns as a backup guard. The new cast of bench players have struggled this season for the Warriors.

The good news is that Steph Curry does not have to have surgery to repair his shoulder. It is expected to take three to four weeks to recover. That is much better than the four to six months he could have been out with surgery.

Curry, of course, will not be in the lineup on Friday night against the Philadelphia 76ers. He will also the highly anticipated nationally televised Christmas Day game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The team does have a solid home stand from Christmas up until Jan. 10. The Warriors are 12-3 at home this season.

How has Golden State Warriors performed in absence of Steph Curry

It is hard for any NBA team to perform without its best player. The Warriors are no exception. They will have to figure out how to not fall too far behind in the playoff race without Steph Curry. The team this season has not won a game without Curry, going 0-3 without him.

The Warriors are 24-66 without their star point guard over the last four seasons. They will have to depend on Jordan Poole, who will likely take Curry’s place in the starting lineup. Draymond Green will have to step up as a playmaker and create shots for other players.

The situation will also put a spotlight on Klay Thompson. This is Thompson’s first full season back since his devastating injuries that kept him out for two years. He will have to assume some of the scoring load to help the team get over the hump. If he cannot, the team may be in trouble and his future uncertain.
