LeBron James and the LA Lakers had another hard-fought overtime battle on Tuesday night, coming away with a 129-123 victory over the New York Knicks. This was just their second game after a controversial 125-121 overtime loss against the Boston Celtics on Saturday.

The Lakers were very frustrated following that loss. They felt they were cheated by a questionable no-call on James’ game-winning layup attempt to end regulation.

Following the Lakers’ OT win on Tuesday, James took an extra opportunity to throw some shade at Saturday’s referees.

"[Tonight's] game was decided by the players. In Boston, the game was decided by the refs," he said.

LeBron James finished with a triple-double against the Knicks, putting up 28 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. In doing so, James became just the fourth player in NBA history to record a triple-double at the age of 38 or older.

James also moved up to fourth on the NBA’s all-time assists list (10,338 career assists), surpassing both Mark Jackson and Steve Nash.

His performance had Lakers coach Darvin Ham raving about his versatility.

“He’s just doing it all,” Ham said.
“That’s what great players do. That’s what all-time greats do, and he’s right up there at the top of the list with all of them.”

Outside of James, Lakers star forward Anthony Davis added 27 points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Knicks were led by stars Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. Brunson finished with 37 points and six assists while Randle put up 23 points and 12 rebounds.

With the win, LA improved to a 24-28 record but remained 13th in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Knicks fell to 27-25 and are seventh in the Eastern Conference following the defeat.

Following his 28-point scoring night against the New York Knicks, LeBron James also moved closer to making more NBA history.

He is now within 89 points of passing LA Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. James currently has 38,299 career points compared to Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387.

James spoke about his upcoming record during his postgame interview.

"I’m going to do it. It’s just a matter of time when I’m going to do it. I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to be in this league for at least a few more years," he said.

Considering James is averaging 30.2 points per game this season, it should only take him around three more games to set the record. This puts him on track to do so on Feb. 7 at home against the OKC Thunder.
