The Luka Doncic injury has stalled the debut of the new-look Dallas Mavericks, but not for much longer. After missing the past three games, the All-Star point guard could potentially make his return to action.

According to the latest injury report, Luka Doncic has been upgraded to questionable with a right heel contusion. This new status opens the door to him being inserted back into the lineup.

This Luka Doncic injury occured during a matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. After being denied at the rim, he lost his balance in the air and hit the floor awkwardly. Since then, the MVP favorite has not been back in action.

Many are anxiously waiting for Doncic to take the floor after Dallas made a big splash before the trade deadline. Following a request to be moved from the Brooklyn Nets, Kyrie Irving now finds himself in a Mavericks uniform.

Irving made his debut Wednesday night in a six-point win over the LA Clippers. He played 36 minutes and finished with a stat line of 24 points, four rebounds and five assists. If Doncic takes the floor against the Sacramento Kings, it will be the first time the league gets to see one of its newest star duos.

The Dallas Mavericks should handle the Luka Doncic injury with caution

Above all else, the Dallas Mavericks need to proceed with caution when it comes to the Luka Doncic injury. If they push him too hard now, it could completely derail their season.

While everyone is despertaley waiting to see Doncic and Kyrie Irving in action together, the Mavericks need to keep the big picture in mind. They made this big trade with the hopes of competing for a title. To do that, they will need their star guard at 100%.

Another reason why Dallas should be careful with the Luka Doncic injury is because they have wiggle room now. Earlier in the season, the Mavericks were winless in games that he missed. That is no longer the case.

Kyrie Irving is an All-Star talent who is more than capable of carrying the team when needed. Having him in the mix now gives Dallas some cushion to get Doncic some extra rest.

Moving forward, Dallas has their work cut out for them. Following a hectic trade deadline, the Western Conference has gotten even better. All eyes are on them and the Phoenix Suns after their blockbuster trade for Kevin Durant.
