Shams Charania interprets the LA Lakers trading scenario after a sloppy start: "Where we see this Lakers team, it's not prudent for them to do that"

The LA Lakers are off to a 2-8 start. They came into the season with championship aspirations. Instead, they look like bottom dwellers.

Many expected the Lakers to upgrade their roster during the offseason. However, they were reluctant to include future first-round draft picks in any trade discussions.

NBA insider Shams Charania recently talked about the organization's willingness to part with future draft assets.

While making an appearance on FanDuel TV, Charania said:

"I'm told the organization will be prudent with their two first-round picks. ...I don't believe the Lakers are in a position right now to mortgage their future with those two available picks."
"They're probably looking at marginal changes around the edges at best. That means trying to make deals without putting in first-round picks. The organization seems to be moving in a direction where they're going to resist moving first-round picks. [Even] if the season continues to go down this path."
"For Lakers fans, who are clamoring for a Buddy Hield, Myles Turner move where you're giving up two first-round picks. ...It's not prudent for them to do that."

It's no surprise that the LA Lakers remain patient. As it currently stands, the organization would be wise to hold off on trading future assets unless they are acquiring a bonafide star.

Is there a trade that can make the LA Lakers contenders?

With LeBron James and Anthony Davis as the focal points of the roster, the LA Lakers won the NBA championship just three seasons ago. The team has failed to replicate that success in the following seasons.

The Lakers' offense has been atrocious. They rank 30th in offensive rating and 26th in points per game. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham is fully aware of their ineptitude.

It has become abundantly clear that the Lakers need to look outside of the organization for help. Having Dennis Schroeder and Thomas Bryant return from injury will improve the team. However, it's not nearly enough. The same would be true if they acquired Buddy Hield and Myles Turner from the Indiana Pacers

One move that made sense during the offseason was acquiring Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. While he would be a major upgrade, his off-court antics would be a huge distraction. The Lakers do not need any more controversy.

The Lakers will face the LA Clippers at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday at 10pm/ET.
