The Ohio State Buckeyes baseball team did a fun exercise in which they asked their players about their celebrity baseball lineup. Sophomore catcher Matthew Graveline chose former MLB and NFL star Deion Sanders as his starting pitcher, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the closer and Mark Wahlberg as the relief pitcher.

The Buckeyes are having a middle-of-the-road season, with a Big Ten record of 12-12 and 28-24 overall. They're seventh in the standings of the Big Ten with no games left in their regular season. Next up is the Big Ten tournament, but a title run is unlikely for the program.

Ohio State to play Big Ten tournament for the first time since 2019

Although the 2024 season doesn't look like a success for Ohio State, it is when you put it into perspective. The Buckeyes have managed, for the first time since 2019, to qualify for the Big Ten tournament later this month in Omaha.

Despite losing the last game of their regular season against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 12-1 on Saturday, the Buckeyes had enough conference victories to clinch the seventh spot in the eight-team Big Ten tournament.

The crucial win came on Thursday when the Buckeyes leapfrogged the Scarlet Knights 6-3. The hero of the day was Matthew Graveline, who hit a three-run home run to put Ohio State in the lead during the 10th inning. Sophomore reliever Blaine Wynk was also key, coming in the eighth inning and providing three scoreless innings.

On Friday, things went even better for Ohio State, with the team getting an 11-5 win over Rutgers.

Ohio State will be looking to repeat the antics of 2019 when they went all the way to the final of the Big Ten tournament and defeated Nebraska to win the title.
