5 memorable moments from the Sunrisers Hyderabad-Mumbai Indians match that don't fade away

Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sunrisers easily chased down Mumbai’s total

Yet another one-sided affair was observed in match no. 12 of the 9th edition of the IPL. The home team, Sunrisers Hyderabad were on top of things from the get-go and closed out a comfortable 7-wicket win against the Mumbai Indians.

This win was SRH’s first this edition as they opened their account courtesy of a David Warner inspired team. The bowlers essayed their role to perfection as the visitors were handed their second loss in three matches.

There were several unforgettable moments in the match that don’t fade away, quite like the Axe signature range of body perfumes. Here are five of the best:

Barinder Sran’s bowling

Sran
The Hyderabad team were brilliant in their bowling

Sran forgot his debut IPL match, where he conceded 31 runs in his team’s loss to Kolkata Knight Riders, in style with a spectacular effort vs Mumbai Indians. The batsmen of the Rohit Sharma-led team were sent packing by Sran as he made his case for an Indian call up.

Figures of 3 wickets in 4 overs at an economy rate of just 7 will surely make the selectors look up and take note. The left-armer took the precious wickets of opener Parthiv Patel, the dangerous Jos Buttler and the well set Ambati Rayudu.

The pacer from Punjab has assured the Indians couldn’t reach more than 142 and bowled his team to their first win of the season.

Krunal Pandya justifies his price tag

Krunal Pandya
The other Pandya brother was also good with the bat

When the elder of the Pandya brothers was sent ahead of the Indian international, Hardik, plenty of eyebrows were raised. However, after this innings, there will be calls of having two Pandyas in the Indian team.

The man bought by Rs. 2 crores by the Mumbai Indians proved every bit of a brilliant buy when he not only helped Rayudu stitch up a partnership but also helped Mumbai reach a competitive total. With 3 maximums and as many fours, Krunal hammered his way to 49 off just 28 balls , narrowly missing out on the half century, but remaining not out till the end.

Bipul Sharma will probably have nightmares about Krunal Pandya now.

Warner magic

David Warner
Warner was magnificent for the Sunrisers

Cometh the hour, cometh the man! The ever consistent David Warner comes to his teams’ aid whenever called upon. Such is the calibre of the man.

The Australian smashed the Mumbai Indians all over the park as he romped home to a 59-ball 90. After Dhawan fell early yet again, this time to Southee, Warner took it upon himself to carry Hyderabad across the finish line, and he did precisely that.

Staying from start to finish, he ensured the Sunrisers Hyderabad finally got their campaign up and running. He was rightly awarded the man-of-the-match award for never giving Mumbai any chance of winning at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Southee’s fightback

Tim Southee
Southee (R) celebrates a wicket with the team

When your batsmen have failed you and managed a paltry 142 on a seemingly batting-friendly wicket, the onus is on your bowlers to overperform to get the win. Tim Southee did precisely that, and with a little bit of help, could have got Mumbai an unlikely win.

If Barinder Sran’s bowling was mesmerising in the first innings, Tim Southee’s was out of this world! The Kiwi conceded just 24 runs in his quota of 4 overs, an economy of just 6 per over - something unheard of in T20s.

He even took 3 wickets, the first of which was a beautiful delivery to Dhawan to give Mumbai hope. Whenever he got the ball, he got a wicket and Moises Henriques and Eoin Morgan were also taken to the cleaners by Southee. A memorable spell indeed.

Chasing power

Sunrisers Hyderabad
Teams chasing have won 11 out of the 12 matches in this IPL

Another day, another win for the team batting second. It has been a mantra for the teams to choose to bowl first if you win the toss. Warner did just that for Hyderabad and they reaped the benefits of it.

The teams chasing have won 11 out of the 12 matches played in the IPL so far! An astonishing stat considering there were quite a few 180+ scores scored in the first innings.

It seems like this is an IPL for the chasers and players like Warner, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, AB de Villiers and Rohit Sharma will surely enjoy. So, next time you win the toss, no need to read the pitch, just ask the opposition to bat first.
