5 Players who could replace Chris Lynn if he is unavailable

Big Bash League - Heat v Hurricanes
Lynn could miss this year's IPL

Chris Lynn injured himself in the recently completed tri-series tournament. His shoulder is dislocated and there is still no proper update on his recovery.

So, there is a chance that he could miss this year IPL season for KKR which would be a big blow for them.

KKR invested big in Lynn in at the auction as he was bought at a price of 9.6 crore by KKR.

So, they might need a replacement for Lynn if he misses the entire tournament. Here are the five players who could be his replacements if he is unavailable in this year's IPL

#5 Alex Carey

New Zealand v Australia: T20 Tri Series
Carey was the second highest scorer in the 2017-18 BBL season

Alex Carey could prove to be a good replacement for Lynn. A good wicket-keeper batsman, he was the second highest scorer in 2017-18 BBL season.

He scored 443 runs in 11 matches including a hundred at a strike rate of 141.53. He is a clean hitter of the ball who likes to attack from all fronts and is in red hot form.

KKR basically needs top order batsman in absence of Lynn, so here Carey could fulfill that requirement.

He could also be used as lower order batsman to finish the game or score maximum runs in death overs.

He could also be given the job behind the stumps as Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Kartik are known for dropping catches at crucial moments.

#4 Lendl Simmons

New Zealand v West Indies - T20 Game 1
Simmons played an important role in Mumbai Indians' title win in 2015

Lendl Simmons is the most underrated opener of the IPL. He is a clean hitter of the ball who knows how to build an inning.

Simmons was signed by Mumbai Indians in 2014 and he scored a staggering 490 runs in 11 matches that year including his first T20 hundred.

He has always been consistent in IPL as he has scored 1079 runs in 29 matches with an average of 39.96 and a strike rate 126.64.

He has also scored 11 fifties in these 29 matches.

He played a key part in Mumbai Indian lifting IPL title in 2015 and who could forget his 51-ball 82 versus India in World T20 semi-final.

A clean hitter of the ball who knows how to build innings, Simmons can be a valuable addition to the KKR squad.

#3 Martin Guptill

ICC World Twenty20 India 2016:  Australia v New Zealand
Martin Guptill is one of the best fielders in the international circuit as well

Martin Guptill is one of the best players in white ball cricket.

His recent form in tri-series only proves if he gets going no one can stop him. His last five scores of 5, 65,105, 62,21 only prove how dangerous he could be in the opening slot.

He has scored 2271 runs in 75 T20 international matches with a strike rate of 132.88 which includes two hundreds.

He is a natural stroke player who has the ability to play a big knock.

He is one of few players to score a double century in one day international, he scored 237 runs in quarter-final of 2015 World Cup. Now if Lynn becomes unavailable he could be a suitable replacement for KKR.

His fielding will also be a bonus for the side as he is one of the best in the department.

#2 Shaun Marsh

Australia v India - Game 3
Marsh is one of the consistent performers in IPL

Shaun Marsh was a revelation when he first appeared in the IPL in 2008.

In his debut season, he scored 616 runs in 11 matches at a mind-blowing average of 68.44. His overall average of about 40 only shows that he has always been consistent in IPL.

He has scored 2477 runs in 71 IPL matches at a strike rate of 132.74 which includes one hundred and 20 fifties.

He was not properly utilised by Kings XI Punjab in the last few seasons of IPL due to Maxwell's inclusion in the squad.

He is a good stroke player who has been treated unfairly despite his good performances when given opportunity.

He can be used as a No.3 batsman where consistency is required for the KKR side and bring stability to the batting lineup.

# 1 Joe Root

ICC World Twenty20 India 2016:  South Africa v England
Root's can be a leader for KKR on the field as well

Joe Root is undoubtedly the number one choice for Lynn's replacement.

The English batsman is only second to Virat Kohli in the limited overs format. He has an average of 39.10 in T20I's and is one of few players who knows how to play in a difficult situation and finish the game.

He has scored 4428 runs in 106 ODIs with a staggering average of 50.9. Root went unsold in the auction. But now the situation has changed for KKR as he could easily find a place in the squad if Lynn is unavailable.

The best thing about him is that he has captained for his national side, so in that way KKR will also get a leader on the field whom they can rely upon to extract the best performance out of their team.
