England v Australia: 1st Investec Ashes Test - Day Three

Phil Hughes, Michael Clarke, Ed Cowan, wicketkeeper Brad Haddin and Ashton Agar of Australia appeal unsuccessfully for the wicket of Stuart Broad of England during day three of the 1st Investec Ashes Test match between England and Australia at Trent Bridge

Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist cleared the air regarding a controversial tweet about the Stuart Broad incident, saying that the tweet was from a fake account. He went on to justify his statement by adding that he does not have a Twitter account.

“It has come to my attention that a fake Twitter account in my name has been making comments regarding the Stuart Broad catch in the first Test,” Gilchrist said to clarify the matter.

He even warned about taking legal actions against the imposters.

“Some of these fake Twitter posts may have serious legal consequences,” warned Gilchrist.

“While I understand the value of social media, I am not on Twitter and have made no comments regarding the Stuart Broad incident,” added the Australian.

The tweet from the fake account reads: “Some people saying, you rely on the umpire. No you don’t, you rely on honesty. Dissappointed by the Poms today. If you’re out, you walk.”

Gilchrist, known for walking off once he got out, however, said that walking is a player’s individual choice.

“Those who followed my career will be well aware of my personal views on the matter of walking and that’s what they are, my personal views. I had my go and Iam now contentto sit back and watch the current generation play the game in whatever manner they are comfortable with,” Gilchrist said about the walking issue.

England‘s Stuart Broad apparently edged a delivery off debutant spinner Ashton Agar which was caught by Michael Clarke standing at first slip.

However, Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar was not convinced about the nick and ruled Broad not out. Broad, despite TV replays showing he actually had edged the delivery, chose to stay on the pitch.
