Best Images from India vs Australia World T20: Kohli's breakdown moment, Watson's heroic end, Yuvraj's painful experience

India completed a famous victory over Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 and made their way into yet another semi-final of T20 cricket's marquee event. The Indians, however, did not have it easy as the Aussies put in their best effort and looked good to win at various stages of the match.

In the end, it took a special effort from ace batsman Virat Kohli, who once again proved his mastery in chasing down targets. His unbeaten 82 helped India win by 6 wickets and move one step closer to their 2nd T20 World Cup title.

Here are some of the best images captured during the high-octane encounter:

Khawaja gives Australia the perfect start

Australia's opening batsman Usman Khawaja certainly gave the Indian team an early scare with the way he got after pacemen Ashish Nehra and Jasprit Bumrah. His 26 off just 16 balls included 6 boundaries and took the Aussie score to 53 in the first 4 overs.

Khawaja was timing the ball beautifully as he has done throughout the tournament and was particularly severe on youngster Bumrah. India, however, were fortunate that veteran pacer Nehra bagged him in the 5th over and Australia did not get any momentum post that.

Finch keeps Australia afloat

Aaron Finch may be among the best T20I batsmen in the world at present, but he struggled to find a place in the team in the first two matches of Australia's campaign at the T20 World Cup. However, he proved to some extent on Sunday against India that he is still one of the top batsmen in the Australian team.

The way in which Finch neutralized India's premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the latter's very first over by smashing him for two sixes was incredible to watch. Aaron Finch, however, fell prey to a short delivery from Hardik Pandya and missed out on a half-century by 7 runs.

Yuvraj Singh celebrates with Kohli after getting Steven Smith

Yuvraj Singh may not have impressed too much with the bat in the ongoing T20 World Cup, but he did a fine job with the ball for India in the must-win clash against Australia. Brought in to bowl in the 10th over, Yuvraj picked up the all-important wicket of the Australian skipper Steven Smith off his very first ball.

Although it did not appear that the ball had taken the edge of Smith’s bat, a convincing appeal from the bowler and skipper MS Dhoni was enough for umpire Erasmus to give it out. Yuvraj Singh delivered his usual ‘roaring’ celebration and an ecstatic Virat Kohli joined in with him.

Watson’s heroic end

Little did Shane Watson know before the start of the India-Australia encounter that it would turn out to be his last international match. However, he did everything that he possibly could to stop the Indians in their tracks and take his team to the semis.

After having remained unbeaten on 18 with the bat, Watson produced a phenomenal bowling performance by dismissing Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina in consecutive overs. His last big contribution to the match was a brilliant catch to dismiss Yuvraj Singh.

It turned out to be a heroic end for one of the best all-rounders in recent times and it was unfortunate that he ended up on the losing side.

Yuvraj’s painful experience

Yuvraj Singh's hopes of leading India to victory against Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 suffered a big blow as he got injured moments after he walked out to bat. The southpaw leaped in an attempt to guide the ball square on the leg side, however, he managed to twist his ankle while landing.

Yuvraj went down with pain and received some treatment from the physio. He was back on his feet soon after and hung in with Virat Kohli despite the pain. When things started to go out of hand , Yuvraj Singh sacrificed his wicket in order to allow a fresher MS Dhoni to come in and help Kohli in his cause.

The partnership that changed the game

India still required 67 to win from just 6 overs when MS Dhoni joined Virat Kohli in the middle. Boundaries had been hard to come by for the Indians and the running between the wickets had also suffered due to Yuvraj's injury.

However, things quickly started to change as Dhoni and Kohli started to run hard and picked up a lot of ones and twos. There was a new spark in the Indian chase and Virat Kohli took charge towards the last few overs with some wonderful strokeplay as he and Dhoni took India home.

Kohli's breakdown moment

After leading Team India to yet T20 World Cup semi-final, Virat Kohli came up with an unusual celebration. The ace batsman looked to have been overwhelmed by the events that had occurred and went down on his knees as if he was in disbelief.

One could also not help but notice that the star batsman was slightly teary-eyed after his heroic effort. It was a complete change for someone like Kohli, who is known for his highly charged-up celebrations, and showed that he surely has another side to him.

Celebrations begin in the Indian dugout

Having lost the opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016, India had lost the favourites tag for a while. However, they are back into contention after consecutive wins against Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia respectively and reserving a semi-final spot.

The way in which the Indian players sitting in their dugout reacted as skipper MS Dhoni carted a boundary to seal the match against Australia showed how much the victory meant to them. They will be hoping to celebrate in the same way at Eden Gardens on 3 April as well.
