If reports coming out of Mumbai are to be believed, black marketers are earning profits by leaps and bounds, selling tickets ten times its original price for the Saturday final between India and Sri Lanka.
For a ticket in the West Avenue Stand of the Wankheda Stadium in Mumbai, fans are ready to shell out Rs 1.25 Lakh to get a ticket originally priced at Rs 37,500. The lowest priced ticket at Rs 1500 is being sold out for not less than Rs 18000 while the Rs 5000 ticket is fetching a price up to nearly Rs 40,000.
The ticket price shot up suddenly when India booked a place in the final against Sri Lanka after defeating Pakistan in the Semi Final on Wednesday. Those who had shown faith in the national team and booked the ticket before the Semi-Final stood out to be the luckiest.
According to the Times of India report two VVIP’s ticket are being sold for 2.25 Lakhs. ”The Holy Grail are the VIP and VVIP tickets, Even politicians are jostling for tickets,” said one source to ToI.
Police say most of the black marketers were people involved in the betting racket. ”Once we started a drive against bookies, most fled to the outskirts. Those who remained behind are making a killing selling tickets,” said police to ToI, issuing a warning to watch out for forged tickets being sold at phenomenal prices.
I wonder how many aam admis would be watching this final match in the stadium with tickets being blacked at such a high rate. Firstly it is beyond the means of common people to buy ticket at such a high rate and secondly common people even with the tickets by now would have sold out their tickets in the black market owing to the huge profit margin.
So it is likely that people who will be present at Wankheda on Saturday, watching the ICC Cricket World Cup Final match between India and Sri Lanka are no ordinary people.
