MS Dhoni and coach Duncan Fletcher avoid media again before T20 World Cup

Coach of the Indian cricket team Duncan Fletcher,Captain MS Dhoni and team manager Chetan Desai during the Indian National cricket team arrival press conference at Sandton Sun Hotel on December 02, 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

No more press conferences before the team’s departure to Dhaka

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has told the team that they will not be needed to indulge in any pre-departure press conference before the team leaves for Dhaka, Bangladesh on Friday for the upcoming World Twenty20, reports the Hindustan Times.

Team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Duncan Fletcher have been given the permission to avoid any kind of questions on the ongoing IPL scandal investigation and poor performances by the team, thus making it too convenient for them.

However, Former skipper Dilip Vengsarkar felt this is was wrong move by the board. “I can imagine the position of both the captain and coach,” he told Hindustan Times. “In the last 2-3 years, India’s performances have been really abysmal. They practically have no answer to offer for their bad performances.”

“Having said that, they should still face the media to explain the shortcomings, acknowledge the mistakes and send out a positive message that can inspire confidence in the team as well as the followers of the game. So, it is hard to understand why there is an attempt to gag them,” Vengsarkar added.

Times are tough for the BCCI, but avoiding the press will just bring more questions for the Indian cricket fans.
