India vs England 2016 5th Test Day One Stats: Alastair Cook overtakes Sachin Tendulkar, Moeen Ali eqauls Virat Kohli

England finished Day One of the fifth and final Test in Chennai at 288 for 4 with Moeen Ali scoring an unbeaten 120 and Joe Root making 88. Ravindra Jadeja was India’s best bowler on the day, picking up 3 wickets while comeback man Ishant Sharma picked up the other wicket.

2-With 1471 Test runs this year, Joe Root is now just behind Michael Vaughan for the most number of runs scored by an Englishman in a single year. The latter made 1481 runs in the year 2002.

1-By dismissing Alastair Cook on Friday, Ravindra Jadeja equalled his own personal record against captains. He also got rid off Michale Clarke on five occasions during his side’s 2013 tour to India.

11-Root’s fifty on the opening day of the Chennai Test was his 11^th against India. He has made a 50+ score in each of the 11 Tests that he has played against the opposition, since making his debut against them in Nagpur in 2012.

1-Root’s 88 on Friday was his 13^th 50+ score in 2016, which now him on par with his own personal best that(13), that achieved in 2015 and also Virender Sehwag, who made the same number of 50+ scores in 2010.

1-Alastair Cook broke the record for the fastest to 11000 Test runs. The left-hander broke the record at the age of 31 years and 357 days, overtaking Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the mark at the age of 34 years and 95 days.

1-With his fifty on Friday, Root also became the first batsman to record a half-century in every game of a Test series on two occasions. He achieved the feat in 2014 as well.

1-Moeen Ali’s hundred on Friday was his fourth in 2016, thereby equalling Virat Kohli for the batsman with the most number of Test tons in 2016.

13- Kohli on Friday claimed his 50^th Test catch, when he caught Cook off the bowling of Jadeja in the opening session. He is the 13^th India to achieve the feat.

26-Today was the 26^th consecutive Test that India have fielded a different side. The last time when the team fielded the same side as the one in the previous Test was in Lord’s 2014, a game they won by 95 runs.
