Kings XI Punjab all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was reprimanded for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision in Punjab’s last match against Delhi Daredevils at the IPL 2016. Match Referee Roshan Mahanama rebuked Maxwell for being guilty of the level 1 offence in Article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials.

According to a press release issued,”In the VIVO IPL match in Delhi last evening, Glen Maxwell of Kings XI Punjab was reprimanded by the Match Referee for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision. Maxwell admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction.”

According to the Article 2.1.5, excessive appealing in a match from a player can amount to an offence. It states that "excessive" appealing refers to "(a) repeated appealing of the same decision/appeal; (b) repeated appealing of different decisions/appeals when the bowler/fielder knows the batter is not out with the intention of placing the Umpire under pressure; or (c) celebrating a dismissal before the decision has been given. It is not intended to prevent loud or enthusiastic appealing," according to the IPL code of conduct.

Maxwell’s terrible outing

Delhi Daredevils won the game convincingly courtesy of a splendid bowling effort by their seasoned leg-spinner Amit Mishra who picked up 4 wickets and demolished the Punjab batting line-up. Mishra foxed the batsman with his guile and loop and picked up crucial wickets at a crucial juncture of the game.

Maxwell had a terrible day on the field as his performances with both bat and ball were below par. He got out to Amit Mishra for a duck and conceded 11 runs in the single over he bowled. Kings XI Punjab heavily relies on Maxwell to deliver the fireworks and Maxwell let them down with a dismal performance last night. He tried to play a lofted shot of Mishra’s bowling but couldn’t time it properly and Brathwaite took a regulation catch at the long-off.

While bowling he was guilty of bowling a little too short outside the off-stump as he conceded two boundaries in his solitary over. The Punjab side was humiliated badly by the Delhi squad as they chased the target down in 13.3 overs. It’s already looking an uphill task for the side who played the IPL final just two years ago. Their hopes heavily rely on Maxwell and Miller as they are the potential match-winners and can change the course of any match with their swashbuckling hitting.
