IPL 2016: Highest/Most Run-Scorers, Leading Wicket-Takers after MI vs SRH & KKR vs GL Clash

Shikhar Dhawan was magnificent against Mumbai Indians

We had two IPL matches on 8 May 2016. Mumbai Indians played Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first game. Mumbai Indians had to adapt to their new home ground in Vishakhapatnam. Kolkata Knight Riders played Gujarat Lions in the second game at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad looked for a win for it would strength their position in the top-half of the table.

In the second game, both the high-flying teams wanted to win to assert their position for the playoffs.

Match one- Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first.

Rohit Sharma said, "We will bowl first. Pretty hot but it's very dry and sticky, unlike Mumbai. We came a couple of games early. We have won the last three. Whatever we spoke, we executed. We have to be at our best to beat these guys."

Mumbai Indians Playing XI:

Rohit Sharma (C), Parthiv Patel (WK), Ambati Rayudu, Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Tim Southee, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Playing XI:

David Warner (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson, Moises Henriques, Yuvraj Singh, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha(WK), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Barinder Sran, Ashish Nehra, Mustafizur Rahman.

David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan started well. The put 85 runs for the first wicket. Warner was good like usual and scored 48 runs in 33 balls. Shikhar Dhawan played the anchor role yet again. He was wonderful against Mumbai Indians. Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh took the game away from MI in the final overs. It was anti-climactic for Yuvraj Singh, though. He hit his own stumps.

Harbhajan Singh had a good game. He took two wickets for 29 runs in his spell of four overs.

Chasing 178, Mumbai Indians were off to a disastrous start. They lost five wickets in the first five overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad dominated the match. SRH dismissed MI for just 92 runs.

Ashish Nehra had an excellent game. He picked up three wickets against Mumbai Indians.

Match two – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab

Gujarat Lions won the toss and chose to field first.

Suresh Raina said, "It is always good to chase in Kolkata. We just need to focus on the process. Pravin Tambe has replaced Pradeep Sangwan."

Gautam Gambhir hinted, "Don't mind having a bat. Looks a good wicket. We are playing with the same team."

Kolkata Knight Riders Playing XI:

Robin Uthappa(WK), Gautam Gambhir(C), Manish Pandey, Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan, Andre Russell, Suryakumar Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Brad Hogg, Morne Morkel, Umesh Yadav.

Gujarat Lions Playing XI:

Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch, Suresh Raina(C), Dinesh Karthik(WK), Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Praveen Kumar, Dhawal Kulkarni, Pravin Tambe, Shivil Kaushik.

Kolkata Knight Riders had a catastrophic start. KKR lost four wickets in the first six overs. Yusuf Pathan and Shakib Al Hasan held their ground to bring KKR out of these troubled waters. They put over 100 runs for the fifth wicket.

Kolkata Knight Riders put 158 runs on the board.

Gujarat Lions started well. GL was in command right from the start. They lost a couple of wickets but that didn’t matter. Dinesh Karthik dug in and hit a fifty. Aaron Finch came in during the last overs to improve GL’s net run-rate. He made 29 runs off just 10 balls. At the end, it was a comprehensive win for the Gujarat Lions.

With this win, GL moves to number one in the points table.

Leading run-scorers:

Virat Kohli leads the chart with over 500 runs. David Warner is at number two with 458 runs. Shikhar Dhawan enters the chart.
