IPL 2018 - 3 released players RCB would be missing right now

RCB released several big names from their squad of last year

The Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently 7th on the IPL 11 points table. Despite having a good combination of players this year, RCB have managed to win only one of their four games. Year after year, fans turn out in large numbers in support of the Virat Kohli led side, only to be disappointed at the business end of the tournament. RCB released several players from their squad of last year, some of which were shocking exclusions. Here's looking at 3 players who were released by RCB but are not performing well for their new teams.

#3 Shane Watson

Watson has been performing well for CSK

Last year, the Australian all-rounder scored only 71 runs from 8 matches for RCB at a dismal average of 11.83. Following this debacle, RCB did not show interest in retaining Watson for this year's squad, and he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings instead.

The 36-year-old is putting up fine all-round performances for Chennai. In his debut for CSK, he ended with 2-29 with the ball and 16 with the bat. In the next game, he again did justice to his place in the team by registering 2-39 with the ball and 42 runs with the bat.

Although he was not very impressive in the third game, he bounced back with a 57-ball 106 in the fourth game and proved why T20 cricket has nothing to do with one's age.

#2 KL Rahul

KL Rahul has 153 runs from 4 games this season

KL Rahul missed IPL last year due to an injury, and the year before that, he scored 71 runs from 8 games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. This year, he was released by the franchise and picked by the Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 11 crore.

Not many thought it wise to spend such a huge amount on the Karnataka batsman, who is often seen as a Test specialist. However, for his new team, the opener has already piled up 153 runs from four games at a strike rate of almost 172! Never before has Rahul played this brilliantly in the IPL, and perhaps RCB, who are once again struggling in the tournament, would be missing his services.

#1 Chris Gayle

The 'universal boss' Chris Gayle scored only 200 runs from nine matches for RCB last year, following which he was released and bought by Kings XI Punjab for ₹2 crores. He did not play KXIP's first two matches of this season, but when he got a chance in the third one he made the most of it with a 33-ball 63. In the next game, he played even better, scoring a knock of 63-ball 104, reminding his critics that he has enough fuel left in his tank.

"I think Virender Sehwag saved the IPL by picking me," said Gayle after his sixth IPL century that came in Mohali.
