IPL 2018, SRH vs CSK: 4 things you might have missed from the match

<p>
Williamson's brilliant innings went in vain

The first match on the double-header Sunday saw a Southern derby as Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings were to lock horns at Uppal in Hyderabad.

After winning the toss Williamson decided to field on a two-paced track as the decision paid off for them. Chennai saw a sluggish start before Rayudu and Raina managed to up the ante to put 182 runs on the board.

Sunrisers didn’t start on the positive note due to a top-order crumble and thereafter it was too much to ask for the likes of Williamson and Pathan.

As a result, the Orange army always felt short of the target as Chennai registered their fourth win to go to the top of the table.

Let’s take a look at some of the things that went unnoticed:

#1 Faf Du Plessis’ struggle against the seamers

Du Plessis opened the innings for CSK

After the win in the previous encounter against Rajasthan Royals, Chennai bought in Du Plessis as a replacement for Imran Tahir, who was ruled out due to an injury.

The change saw the South African opening the innings alongside Shane Watson.

Playing his first game in this IPL, South African skipper didn’t look convincing in his time spent at the crease.

He found it difficult to get going against the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul and Billy Stanlake.

Eventually, he was stumped on a delivery of Rashid Khan for a paltry 11 off 13 deliveries.

#2 Rashid Khan being hammered in two consecutive games

It has not been a good couple of games for Rashid Khan

It is a rare sight when World’s No.1 T20 bowler gets hammered away for runs in a wholesale fashion.

Khan has witnessed some cruel times with the ball in his last two games when he has routed for runs in both of his spells.

It was Chris Gayle and Co. who took him for plenty in the game against Punjab to record 55 runs in his quota of four overs.

And today against Chennai he conceded 49 runs in his fourr overs with a solitary scalp of Du Plessis.

He has been on the receiving end in the past two games despite a good start to his IPL season.

#3 Bhuvneshwar Kumar not bowling his full quota

It was a very rare occasion as Bhuvi was not given the last over of the innings

It was something that Indians are not accustomed to seeing with Bhuvi not bowling his full quota of overs in a limited overs match.

The move from Williamson came in as a surprise when Kumar was neglected to bowl the final over of the innings.

In his three overs, he conceded just 22 runs with an economy well under eight. Being the spearhead of the attack on most occasions, it was an astounding decision from Hyderabad to go with the less experienced campaigner in Stanlake to bowl the ultimate over of the innings.

#4 SRH playing sans the magical duo after five years

Warner and Dhawan has been the core of SRH for a long time

It was for the first time in the history of last five years of IPL, that saw Sunrisers Hyderabad playing sans the magical duo of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan. The duo has been the core of the Orange Army for the past couple of years.

While Warner was ruled out of the entire season pertaining to the aftermath of the Ball-tampering incident, his opening partner Dhawan suffered an injury in the previous encounter against Kings XI Punjab.

He got a blow near his elbow that forced him to miss their home encounter against the Chennai Super Kings to see them without the services of the Warner-Dhawan after a much longer time.
