IPL 6: Match 4 - DD vs RR - Flops of the day

Kusal Perera

Sri Lankan Kusal Janith Perera, the left hand dynamo, is not only inspired by his hero Sanath Jayasuriya but at times, he seems a carbon copy of his legendary countryman. But, alas, today he ended up with only 14 runs as he slogged Umesh Yadav straight into the safe hands of Irfan Pathan. In his very short stay at the crease, he smashed a couple of impressive boundaries but played one shot too many and was a big disappointment of the day. Hopefully, he will better his performance in the upcoming matches.

Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan, once called the swing king of Indian Cricket, has been on a steady decline for many years and today was no different as he leaked runs at a steady pace, which didn’t help his captain in any way when he was expected to do a hold-up job. On the other end, Umesh Yadav would blast the opposition teams but as Yadav did his job, the experienced pro let his team down!

Unmukt Chand

Unmukt Chand, the find of the U-19 World Cup, was castled by the impressive Sreesanth. It once again exposed Chand’s technique. For someone as young as Chand, it will be disheartening for him to get bowled twice in a row. Chand, during his 19 ball stay, made an un-enterprising 23 and was put out of his misery by Sreesanth. Chand would do well to tighten his technique but will this format allow him to do that? One thing is for sure – he needs to find answers quickly.

Johan Botha

Johan

Johan Botha, the former South African T20 captain, was considered a major scoop when DD bought him at this year’s auction. He was supposed to be the solution of their spin bowling. It was really an astute buy and may prove to be the bargain of the season as we move deep in to the season. But judging by his performances today, he was a big letdown. He conceded 19 runs in his only over of the day when his team desperately needed to tighten the screws. While on the batting front, he left the team high and dry by trying a reverse-sweep, as he was out for mere 2 runs when his team only needed 9 runs of the final over.
