MS Dhoni has unfinished business in ODIs as a leader

Kohli still has lot to learn from Dhoni

Well, it has been quite a time since we won against Sri Lanka and the loss against Bangladesh has almost been forgotten, but what has taken up is the upcoming South African series with the talks of Virat Kohli as a leader in the remaining two formats as well.

All such talks were though, put to an end by the selection panel. The thing I am going to talk here about revolves around MS Dhoni's significance for the upcoming series. Yes, its true that under Kohli, dressing room did transform a bit, adopted an aggressive approach, which led to some of the people saying that the difference in ideologies across the 3 formats will do more harm, forget good, to the team.

But what I would like to raise here is that Kohli has still a lot to learn. Yes, he broke the jinx by winning a Test series away, but what are we saying here? We would have to be out of our senses to inflict Kohli's advent as a captain in the one-day side as well, making dhoni leave his position.

We must understand Dhoni's importance as a captain, and how important it is even for Kohli to play under his leadership, the way he manages his men under extreme pressure. But yes, that is done, Dhoni is the captain, unlike some wanted, and yes the prime focus is on MSD.

Time will automatically tell, that he is still the best we have.

Some time back, media also questioned Dhoni’s role as a batsman in the team. Yes, he has been slightly out of touch and averaged round about 43 in the last 8 to 10 games as compared to his career average of about 52. But still, on most of the occasions he was one of the few to fight.

For example recently concluded World Cup semifinal. People say that old flare is missing in his batting, but rest assured, he knows how to answer criticism and his move up to number 4 is a hint of that.

So let us just wait and watch him prove his position in the team, and why we need him still. India-South Africa is going to be one cracker of a series, and a Test for MSD and co.

Dhoni is under scrutiny after the Bangladesh loss and now it’s up to him and his team to answer the critics and make a match of opposition and win and show the world that we are invincible in the shorter formats.

Kohli is emerging as a leader and the series before his big Test will help him a lot to learn and then grow as a captain when playing the four-match Test series against the one of the best Test sides in the World.
