South Africa steamrolled Bangladesh by 149 runs on Tuesday to secure the second spot on the World Cup 2023 table. Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai hosted this one-sided match.

After electing to bat first, South Africa started on a sedate note with Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks occupying the crease. Bangladesh started with the pace and spin combination.

In the seventh over, Shoriful Islam bowled a brilliant in-swinger to disturb Hendricks' timber as he departed for 12 runs. An over later, Rassie van der Dussen was sent packing for just one run by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

From there, it was one-way traffic as Aiden Markram joined hands with De Kock to dominate the opposition bowlers. Both the batters reached their respective fifties.

Markram departed for a well-made 60 off 69 balls after he was dismissed by Shakib. With 20 overs left, Heinrich Klassen and De Kock stepped on the pedal, hitting frequent fours and sixes.

Quinton de Kock went on to score his third century in five innings in this World Cup. Klaasen, on the other hand, reached his fifty in just 34 balls.

After going all guns blazing, de Kock had to depart for 174 off 140 balls, featuring 15 fours and seven sixes. He was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud as the batter sliced one to deep third man.

In the final overs, Klaasen (90 off 49) and David Miller (34* off 15) propelled South Africa to 382/5 in 50 overs. Hasan Mahmud picked up two wickets for Bangladesh with Mehidy Hasan, Shoriful Islam and Shakib Al Hasan bagging one apiece.

Statistically speaking, after scoring 143 runs in the final 10 overs against England, the Proteas smacked 144 runs in the last 10 overs against Bangladesh. Also, this was South Africa's seventh consecutive 300-plus score while batting first in ODIs.

In response, Bangladesh openers Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das stitched a 30-run opening stand before the former got out for 12. They lost three more wickets quickly and were struggling at 42/4 in 12 overs.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim were the ones to depart for single-digit scores. Mahmudullah ended as the top-scorer for the team, scoring a run-a-ball 111 with 11 fours and four sixes.
